A Note from Dr. Compton A Note from Dr. Compton

Happy Sunday, Pride!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful spring break. My family and I spent the week in Murrells Inlet. While it was relaxing, it wasn’t quite the Spring Break we’re used to—plenty of sunshine, but temperatures in the 60s and a steady coastal wind.

On the way back, my daughter said something that stopped me in my tracks: “We have 7 weeks left… and no break.”

For her, it was the “no break” that stood out.

For me, it was the “7 weeks left.”

Sure enough, I checked the calendar—and she’s right. Just seven weeks remain. And if I’m being honest, that realization has my heart racing a bit.

Why? Because there is so much that has to happen between now and the final bell on May 28.

Over the next several weeks, we move into one of the most important—and busiest—stretches of the school year:

  • State testing (SC READY, SC PASS, EOCs)

  • End-of-year diagnostics (iReady)

  • High school final exams

  • Presentations of Learning across multiple grade levels

  • Art Show

  • Community Festival

  • Incoming kindergarten screenings

  • Special Olympics Area Games send-off

  • Track & Field regionals and state championships

  • Band performance in Columbia for the Charter School District Board

  • Yearbook distribution

  • Elementary school dance

  • 8th Grade Formal

  • Prom

  • 5th grade promotion ceremony

  • 8th grade promotion ceremony

  • Senior breakfast

  • Senior walk

  • Graduation

  • And of course… Elementary Field Day

  • And everything else I’m sure I’ve forgotten

It’s a full sprint to the finish.

But here’s what I know about The Pride: We don’t just rush to the end, we finish strong.

These final seven weeks are where growth becomes visible. It’s where all of the small, intentional steps taken throughout the year begin to come together. It’s where our students demonstrate what they’ve learned, and our teachers see the impact of their work in real time.

So as we head into this stretch, I want to encourage all of us, including students, teammates, teachers, staff, administrators, coaches, and families, to stay focused, stay energized, and support one another.

Let’s make these last seven weeks count.

There’s no finish line in education, but there are moments that matter. These next seven weeks are one of them.

In Pride and Purpose,

~Dr. Compton
