Homecoming Week for WBHS
WBMS Students walking in the Homecoming parade should meet at the Prince of Peace church parking lot at 4:45 on Friday, October 9th.
Students attending the WBHS football game will need to show their school ID and be accompanied by a parent/guardian listed on their PowerSchool account. WBMS staff will be at the entrance gates to verify guardianship. Thank you for helping to keep our sporting events safe and enjoyable for all attendees. Students need to be supervised and seated in the stands to watch the event. More details listed below re: spectators at sporting events. Sporting events are not "drop off" events for students to wander around the venue.
Dinner & Dialogue
Thank you to the 39 parents/guardians who attended our Fall Dinner & Dialogue on October 1st.
We enjoyed an evening of dinner, connection, and meaningful conversations about the middle school experience. Through rotating small-group discussions, families shared perspectives on student belonging, school communication, and ways to strengthen our WBMS community. Our “Keep, Change, Create” activity invited parents to identify what is working well, what could improve, and new ideas to consider as we move from listening to action.
A special thank you to West Bloomfield Youth Assistance for providing dinner! We appreciate our families’ thoughtful input and partnership in helping students feel known, supported, challenged, and connected.

S.E.L. in Advisory this week
This week in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), students are diving into Lesson 6: Reactions to Emotions.
This lesson addresses an important area of growth for middle schoolers, as school survey data showed that last year only 62% of WBMS students felt able to pull themselves out of a bad mood.
Here is an overview of what students are learning and practicing this week:
- The Think-Feel-Do Cycle: Students are learning the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Triangle model, which illustrates how our thoughts (the words we say to ourselves), feelings (the emotions experienced in our bodies and minds), and behaviors (our actions and choices) are all interconnected around a situation.
- Reframing Thoughts: Through real-world scenarios—such as hearing rumors in the hallway or getting caught in a hall sweep—students analyze how negative thought patterns lead to anxious or angry feelings and unhelpful choices. They then practice reframing their thoughts to achieve calmer feelings, make better choices, or ask for help.
- Group Discussion & Reflection: In small groups, students reflect on common middle school situations (such as waiting for a text reply, being called to the office, or talking with a teacher) to identify constructive ways to handle their thoughts and actions.
Core Takeaway: By understanding that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are directly linked, students learn that changing how they think about a challenging situation can improve their emotional state and lead to positive decision-making

Protocol for Spectators at WBSD Sporting Events
We love seeing our WBMS families showing their LAKER pride and supporting our students at athletic events! Please remember that the same expectations apply at WBMS athletic events as they do when our middle school students attend WBHS events.
Students must be supervised by a parent/guardian throughout the event. The supervising parent/guardian must be listed on the student’s PowerSchool account. Athletic events are not drop-off events for middle school students.
Thank you to our parent community for understanding the importance of working together to provide a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for everyone. We appreciate your partnership and support!
WBMS Athletic Events this week...
Student Spectators MUST leave the school and return with their parent/guardian to attend the event. Student spectators are not allowed to remain unsupervised on school campus between dismissal and the event.

Volunteers and Visitors to the Building
Unscheduled visitors coming to the building will not be permitted to enter past the front office. Drop-in visitors will not be allowed to enter the building without a pre-scheduled appointment. We will continue this approach in an effort to maximize safety and security while minimizing disruptions to learning.
Volunteers, both parent/community volunteers (Reading Mentors, Watch DOGS, classroom volunteers, etc.) as well as student mentors in programs such as the professional apprenticeship, are permitted under the following circumstances:
- They must have approval from the principal and teacher before volunteering.
- Interested volunteers must also complete a volunteer form and provide a copy of their driver’s license/ID to the school’s office staff upon request. Once completed, the paperwork is forwarded to HR for a background check (ICHAT).
- iCHAT background checks are still required for all non-student volunteers.
Recess in the iCenter
Each advisory class has a scheduled recess as part of a rotation which includes: iCenter, Outdoor/ Track and field, Indoor Gym activities, and Board Games in the classroom.
A wide variety of activities are set up in the iCenter for our students to interact and engage with each other. We encourage social interaction and collaboration through shared experiences.

Fueling Kids Futures
Dear Parents of West Bloomfield School District Students,
If your child is a student (3 to 26 years of age) in the West Bloomfield Schools, s/he can also participate in the 2026-27 Fueling Kids’ Futures–One Meal at a Time (previously known as Blessings in a Backpack) program. This program sends six non-perishable meals home each Friday of the school year. Its goal is to make sure that no child goes hungry on the weekend. Run by volunteers, there is NO cost to you.
To enroll in this program, please fill out the form below and return it to your school office or email it to katherinesheiko@hotmail.com. This registers your child/ren in the Fueling Kids’ Futures–One Meal at a Time program and alerts us to any allergies they might have. The first bag of food will be sent home in mid September. Any student enrolled in the program for the 25/26 school year will automatically be enrolled for the 26-27 school year and does not have to fill out an application.
