WEEKLY HAWK
March 10-14, 2025
Join Us for Cherry Creek Reads 2025: “Read Together, Celebrate Together”
Cherry Creek School District is excited to celebrate the joy of reading with Cherry Creek Reads 2025, happening from March 10-14, 2025. This year’s theme, “Read Together, Celebrate Together”, invites students, staff, and families to come together to celebrate the power of books and the joy of reading.
The featured book for 2025 is A Face is a Poem by Julie Morstad, a beautiful children’s picture book that explores the uniqueness of every face. Through playful and imaginative language, the book encourages readers to observe the details that make each face special—such as freckles, scars, or the shape of eyebrows—and consider how these features tell a story about a person’s identity. The book also sparks curiosity by asking fun questions like, “What if faces could change?” or “What if eyelashes were like butterfly wings?” Most importantly, A Face is a Poem promotes a positive message of acceptance, celebrating the beauty in every face, no matter the differences.
During Cherry Creek Reads 2025, we encourage all students, staff, and families to read for 68 minutes or more throughout the week. This represents one minute for every Cherry Creek school and symbolizes our district’s commitment to coming together to build a strong reading community. Whether you read alone, with a friend, or as part of a group, the goal is to inspire each other and share in the joy of reading!
At our school, we will:
● Encourage every staff member and student to read for 68 minutes from March 10-14.
● Create Currently Reading signs and display them outside classrooms to share the books we’re enjoying.
● Read and discuss A Face is a Poem by Julie Morstad, exploring the details of faces and the positive message it sends about appreciating and celebrating our differences.
Thank you to the CCSD Library Leadership Team for organizing this event, and to Cherry Creek Education Association (CCEA) for donating a book to each school library. Let’s come together to read, celebrate, and create a culture of acceptance and inclusion in our community!

CCSD will be hosting the final Giveback Cherry Creek Volunteer training for the ‘24-25 school year in March and we’d love to have as many volunteers as possible in attendance. Important Information!
All Visitors to our School:
We are so happy to welcome visitors and volunteers into our building this year. Whenever you come to Homestead, please bring your driver's license or state issued ID with you for check in.
Playgrounds After School:
Please help us make sure all of our kids are heading home right after school by staying off the playground equipment until 3:15 pm
Dogs:
We love them, but, please do not bring them onto school property. We have found that even on a leash, dogs can still present a risk to kids…some are afraid, some are allergic. Please help us make sure they feel safe here at school by leaving your dog at home. Thanks so much!
Bikes and Scooters:
“Walk Your Wheels”…please remind kids to walk their bikes and scooters in crosswalks and once they get onto school grounds. This reduces the risk of accidents with pedestrians.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches:
Students need to keep their cell phones and smart watches in their backpacks, turned off, during the day.
Back Parking Lot Helpful Hints
- For everyone’s safety, please end all cell phone use before entering the parking lot. The traffic in the back lot goes ONE WAY only. Enter from the north side and exit through the south side. DO NOT ENTER AGAINST THE ARROWS!
- There is no left turn out of the back parking lot onto Homestead Parkway. Vehicles must turn right.
- Please pull your vehicle all the way up to the crosswalk when possible before dropping off or picking up your child.
- Please have your child enter and exit the car from the PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. Drivers may not exit vehicle in the drop off lane for any reason. If you need to assist your child, please find a parking space.
- If you have dropped off your child, you may pull out and pass the cars that are curbside in order to exit the parking lot. Please pull forward slowly and anticipate that the drop off lane merges back into one lane after the crosswalk.
- Please only use the designated crosswalk when going to and from the parking lot. It is very important to show our kiddos where it is safe to cross, even when they are accompanied by an adult.
- Please remember that there are hundreds of kiddos walking next to moving cars – please drive slowly and attentively!
