Studio Art - Ms Carswell. Ms Gerwig
In Studio Art, students in grades 5-7th have jumped right into their first big project, exploring concepts like value, blending, and creating an illusion of depth on a two-dimensional surface!
5th Grade
Fifth graders recently completed their own realistic pumpkin patch using oil pastels and black puffy paint. They practiced drawing pumpkins through careful observation, noticing the shapes, ridges, and proportions of real pumpkins. They added a raised texture with black puffy paint and then layered and blended oil pastel to show light and shadow, using analogous colors—colors next to each other on the color wheel, such as yellow, orange, and red—to create depth and dimension!
6th Grade
Our 6th graders have been exploring the bones in their hands and creating hyperrealistic x-ray drawings of their own hands! Throughout the project, students practiced close observation and careful shading to bring their drawings to life. The class also discussed monochromatic color schemes, tints, and shades—techniques that helped them add depth and dimension to their work. The result is a collection of detailed, lifelike pieces that showcase both artistic skill and scientific curiosity.
7th Grade
Students are developing one-point perspective compositions that reflect a personal theme or interest. They will design three-dimensional forms to integrate into their work, applying perspective techniques while thoughtfully planning the spatial relationships among their chosen elements. Through this process, students practice fundamental perspective skills and communicate personal meaning through visual art.
3D Art - Ms Yandell, Ms Gerwig
3D Art - Ms. Yandell and Ms. Gerwig
Students in 3D Art are currently enjoying our Metal Tooling unit. Using thin sheets of aluminum and special tools for chasing and repousse, we have been exploring the art of relief sculpture though three exciting hands-on projects.
5th Grade - Students are learning about the colorful traditions of Mexican Folk Art by making vibrant personalized picture frames full of textures and patterns.
6th Grade - The fascinating world of Medieval Art and Illuminated Manuscripts is being explored through our Illuminated Lettering project. Students create their monogram and then use metal techniques to create depth through metal tooling.
7th Grade - Our students love to learn about the world and have been excited to explore important architectural landmarks. This research based project combines geography, architecture, and art!.
Next up is our clay unit - stay tuned for more details on these highly anticipated and engaging projects!

Engineering, Robotics, Makerspace - Mr. Perkins
STEM+M: We are off to a great start in the brand new STEM+M lab. Students have become familiar with the space and our program, working through the first unit. We are beginning to learn about different tools that will be used throughout the semester. Tape measures, pliers, wrenches, hammers and more are all covered in our Intro to Manufacturing. This hands-on exposure is some students' first time using hand tools and the excitement is very high.
Engineering: Already we have begun working through our first engineering challenge. Students are trying to figure out how they can build the tallest possible paper tower using limited resources. Each student is researching, brainstorming, and designing their plan for a successful tower. Soon they will join their team to create the tallest tower possible.
Intro to Technology: Entering the middle school the 5th grade students have so many new things to learn. We are taking the time to introduce and learn about the school technology they will continue to use throughout their time at the middle school. Beginning with emails and slideshows, students are learning how they can use technology to help them in school and beyond.
World History, Current Events, Financial Literacy - Mr. Hood
Welcome back everyone !
The school year is off to a great start ! In all our classes we've been getting to know each other through team building games and activities. We've gone over our syllabus for the semester and illuminated some key classroom behavior expectations related to Responsibility, Respect, and Perseverance.
Health and Wellness - Mrs. Agreste, Mr. Guillerault, Mrs. Membrino
Over the past few weeks in Health & Wellness, students have participated in a variety of fun activities focused on getting to know each other and building our classroom community. Students worked together through team-building challenges, icebreakers, movement activities, and cooperative games that encouraged communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.
These activities gave students opportunities to meet new classmates, learn more about one another, practice working as a team, and build positive relationships. We also focused on our classroom values of respect, responsibility, and perseverance as students learned how important it is to listen to others, encourage their teammates, and keep trying when something is challenging.
Our goal has been to create a Health & Wellness classroom where everyone feels welcomed, included, respected, and comfortable participating. It has been great to see students working together, having fun, and beginning to build a strong classroom community!
Physical Education - Mrs. Agreste, Mr. Guillerault, Mrs. Membrino
In Physical Education at BMS, we have been very busy. Here are some of the games that we have recently played:
Team Tag
Yoshi
Triple Dipper
Castleball
2-ball Kickball
Capture the Football
In the gym, we place a heavy emphasis on Respect, Responsibility, and Perseverance and expect that a student is a “3”, which simply means that they are consistently meeting our expectations. Sometimes in class, a student goes above and beyond our expectations, and leads by example in things like sportsmanship, teamwork, and communication. At the end of class, that student is recognized as a “4”, and signs our 4-Board!
