Parent Newsletter - August 22, 2025
From the Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Families,
We’ve had a wonderful week here at Young Elementary! Our 5th Grade Leadership Team has officially started their jobs, and we are so proud of the way they are stepping up as role models across the school.
- Greeting Crew – Welcoming students each morning, saying hello, and helping our younger students safely out of their cars.
- Mentor Crew – Partnering with younger students to build relationships, model positive behavior, and practice social skills.
- Announcements Crew – Leading our school community each morning with the pledges, moment of silence, and other important daily information to get our day started on the right note.
This week, our 1st and 2nd grade students completed their MAP Fluency assessments, and next week our entire campus will begin the Beginning-of-Year MAP Growth testing. (I shared more details in an emailed earlier this week.)
We also hosted our first PTO meeting of the year, and it was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support. We’d love to see even more parents join us at future meetings—your involvement makes such a difference for our students and school community.
Thank you, as always, for your support and partnership in making Young Elementary a great place for learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Andrew Hohman
Principal, Young Elementary

Shoes That Fit Fundraiser
A message from Coach Harrison!
Help us ensure every child comes to school with confidence and comfort! Many students in our community lack properly fitting shoes, which impacts their ability to learn, play, and thrive. By supporting our Shoes That Fit Fundraiser, you’ll provide new, well-fitting shoes to children who need them most. Together, we can make sure no child is held back by something as simple as shoes.
Every dollar makes a difference—thank you for helping us change lives, one pair at a time!

Counselor's Corner
Character Trait of the Month
It was a fun week with PreK-2nd grade in our counseling lessons!
PreK-1st grade got to learn about a School Counselor's job with help from my Mrs. Cordova Potato Head! With 2nd grade, we read "Mrs. Joyce Gives the Best High Fives" to learn about how a School Counselor can help them and they got to draw us giving each other a high five!
I can't wait for Start with Hello Week next week! It's going to be a good one!
If you have any questions or think I could be of help to your family at any point-please reach out!
