Weekly Update
October 3, 2025
PRINCIPAL GREETING
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy October!
This week, we hit the midpoint in the first marking period. This is a time to check your children’s grades and be sure they are making progress in their classes. We are also moving into many exciting events that are coming up. Next week, we launch into our Week of Respect, where students will spend time reflecting on ways to be kind to others in the building and beyond. Students and staff are preparing for homecoming by making posters and banners for the hallway- please remember to buy your child’s dance ticket by the 8th. Finally, we have many other events approaching, including financial aid night, NHS blood drive, and PSATs. It is sure to be a great October!
As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Go Hounds!
Dr. McCann

Below is the information from the student handbook regarding a student in good standing. Please note that students not in good standing will not be permitted to attend Homecoming until they have been restored to good standing. Homecoming tickets will be on sale soon so it is important to confirm your standing as soon as possible.
STUDENT IN GOOD STANDING - The Northern Burlington County Regional School District recognizes that participation in extracurricular activities is an important part of a student’s school experience. There are many academic expectations in addition to social activities that enhance a student’s high school experience. We support these social events as privileges for students who have demonstrated academic achievement, good attendance, and appropriate behavior throughout the school year.
Benefits of being In Good Standing include, but not limited to:
Attending Blue/ Grey Night, Homecoming Dance, Prom, and Graduation.
Approval to attend non-NB events requiring Administrative recommendation.
Attending school sponsored extracurricular field trips, including Renaissance BBQ, Band Trip, Senior Class Trip, etc.
Earning Senior parking privileges.
Students will fall Out of Good Standing if:
Required Documents: Have not submitted- Emergency Information Form, Parent/Student Consent Form, and Federal Impact Aid Form (Oct.)
Attendance: Students who have exceeded the attendance policy.
Discipline: Two or more suspension occurrences (ISS or OSS) and/or 22 accumulated points within the school year. Any single offense deemed especially serious by the Administration prior to the date of the privileged event.
Obligations and Fines*: All obligations and fines must be paid in full prior to the privilege or event. Event tickets and parking permits cannot be purchased unless all fines are paid.
Please note: Monies paid are non-refundable for events like the Senior Class Trip and Prom if a student is not in good standing at the time of the event and/or time monies are due in full. *Will impact PowerSchool Access.
It is the student’s responsibility to monitor his/her status as a Student in Good Standing.
Free and Reduced Lunch
If you have not already done so, please complete a new lunch application for the 2025-2026 school year. Your child's
lunch status remains the same eligibility from last year for free or reduced- price meals but will expire on 10/20/2025
unless a new application has been submitted prior to this date.
You can still reapply for benefits for this school year by completing the online application found at
https://mealapp.lunchtimesoftware.net/Default.aspx
An email address is required to use this website for submitting free/reduced applications. Please contact your child’s school and ask for a paper application if an email address is not available to you. OR mealapp.lunchtimesoftware.net
or turning in a paper application directly to the school. If you are
not eligible for benefits now, but have a decrease in household income, become unemployed, or have an increase in

State Assessment Schedule
During the 2025–2026 school year, students will participate in a variety of standardized assessments. Some of these assessments are mandated by the State of New Jersey, while others are voluntary and dependent on the courses that the student is enrolled in.
Linked below is a chart outlining the standardized tests scheduled for this school year. Please note that the chart is for informational purposes only.
If you have any questions regarding the assessments or the information provided, please do not hesitate to contact your students' school counselor.

Week of Respect
The week of October 6 is the statewide observance of Week of Respect. This is a time when all schools in New Jersey take time to engage with the students to encourage positive behavior between students and reduce (and hopefully eliminate) bullying. As part of the observance, the students in the high school will have different activities during homeroom. Link to Tuesday’s Video
Federal Impact Aid Survey:
On October 15, 2025, Northern Burlington will electronically solicit the US Department of Education's Federal Impact Aid Student-Parent Survey Form for the 2025-2026 School Year. This form will be available through PowerSchool’s parent portal. This survey is important and determines the amount of Federal Impact Aid the district receives. Consequently, this form, one for each student, needs to be completed and submitted by you (student’s parent/guardian/sponsor) by Friday, October 31, 2025.
Beginning on October 15, 2025 you will not be able to access your child(ren)’s grades until the survey form is completed so, please keep your eye out for this electronic survey form on October 15th. Thank you!
Financial Aid Night
On Thursday, October 16th, the Counseling Department will host a Financial Aid Night at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. A presenter from HESAA will speak to seniors and their parents about Financial Aid and paying for college. It is a great night with a very knowledgeable speaker; we hope to see you there.

September is quickly progressing and it would be ideal to try and balance the demands and obligations that are starting to pile up as students settle into the school year. Anxiety usually plays a role in this process. Encouraging your teen to verbalize what may be overwhelming them can help reduce the amount of anxiety they are feeling. Rephraming a negative statement such as “I am going to fail this test” to “ I am capable of doing my best on this test” can make a big difference. Focusing on what can be controlled such as preparation and effort can also help. Incorporating relaxation and mindfulness by practicing deep breathing, journaling and taking short breaks to listen to music or just stepping away for 10 minutes can help your teen be more productive. There is always the old-fashioned list too that works to calm anxiety as you cross things off. There is no right or wrong to whatever method or combination you choose, sometimes just switching into action mode instead of spinning your wheels does the trick.
