Happy New Year, Hembree Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. It’s such a joy to see our students back in the building, full of smiles and excitement! We have so many amazing events coming up, and I’d love for you to join us.

International Night – Thursday, January 15 | 5:30–7:30 PM

We’re thrilled to host our first-ever International Night, an event requested by our community in many surveys. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures that make Hembree so special.

  • Want to participate? There’s still time to sign up!
  • Prefer to attend? Come enjoy the festivities, food, and fun.
Check out the flyer below for details—we can’t wait to see you there!

Math Night at Tres Hermanos – Thursday, January 29

Join us for one of our favorite annual events! Math Night will take place at Tres Hermanos Grocery Store, and it’s always a blast. Plus, there’s a delicious restaurant in the back—perfect for grabbing a quick dinner. Flyers with details are below. Don’t miss it!

Student-Led Learning Celebration – Thursday, February 12 | 5:00–7:00 PM

Mark your calendars for our big annual showcase! This event highlights the incredible work our students have accomplished and gives you a glimpse into their daily learning. All staff will be present, and we’d love your support in making this a huge success.

Report Cards Available Soon!

First semester report cards will be available in the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus starting Friday, January 16. We will also send a hard copy home with students that same day. Please take a moment to review your child’s progress and celebrate their hard work!

Annual State Survey for Parents and Families

We’ve had great success in the past with survey participation at Hembree Springs, and your feedback truly makes a difference! Completion of this survey counts toward our CCRPI overall school report card score, and your input helps us continue to grow and improve.

Please take 10 minutes to complete this year’s state survey by January 30th. Your voice matters, and we greatly appreciate your support!

On a personal note, I had a wonderful winter break right here in town, catching up with family and friends. I did battle a short-lived flu (thankfully!), and like many of you, I was a little disappointed about the Bulldogs game against Ole Miss. But hey—we had a great season, and I’m already excited for next year!

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend, and I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events!

Warm Regards,

Nancy Lahey

All in on Attendance--New Year, Fresh Start All in on Attendance--New Year, Fresh Start

A new semester is a chance to recommit to excellent attendance. Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare for success.

Attending school regularly in January sets a pattern—students who attend 90% or more this month are more likely to meet year-end goals.

The late bell rings at 7:40am. Students should be in their classroom ready to learn at that time.

Silent Auction Items Needed Silent Auction Items Needed

We’re now collecting donations for the PTA Together We Soar Silent Auction Feb. 27-March 8, and we’d love your support! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

Not sure what to donate? These items are always a hit:

--Tickets to pro sports games, concerts, or popular shows

  • --Gift cards from favorite local restaurants. Or maybe you got a gift card over the holidays you don't plan to use?

Donating is also a great way to spotlight your business — and all donations are tax deductible. Every contribution directly supports programs and experiences that benefit our students, teachers, and families at Hembree Springs Elementary.

Talent Show Update Talent Show Update

Dear Parents,

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s Talent Show received a record number of submissions! Thank you for encouraging your children to share their amazing talents—we are so proud of every applicant.

Please note that we are no longer accepting applications or video submissions. If a video was not submitted by the deadline, the student will not be considered for this year’s show.

In addition, we will be conducting auditions in January for students who applied to be hosts.

To keep the program at a reasonable length, we will not be able to include all acts. If your child is not selected for this year’s show, please encourage them to keep practicing and preparing for next year—we truly value their effort and enthusiasm.

If an act is denied because of song lyrics not being age appropriate, submitting a new song will not be allowed for this year’s show.

Mrs. Soberanis and Ms. Tejada will notify all parents within the next two weeks to let you know whether your child will be performing or participating in the crew for this year’s Talent Show.

Thank you again for your support in making this event such a special celebration of our students’ talents!

Sincerely,

Talent Show Committee

Student Success Skills for January Student Success Skills for January

Social Competence

As students continue developing Student Success Skills, another skill they will learn is social competence. Being socially competent means knowing how to get along with others in social situations. It helps us get along with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

In our Student Success Skills lessons, students learn how to take turns, cooperate, join group activities appropriately, show loyalty and fairness to friends, and resolve minor conflicts by compromising fairly.

They also learn how to listen to others and take conversational turns. They learn how to read basic social cues (tone of voice and facial expressions).

How you can help your child be socially competent:

Model Social Competence:

Children learn a great deal by observing the adults around them – they are watching and modeling your behavior! Demonstrate respectful communication. Show empathy towards others. Handle conflicts calmly and verbally. Practice social scenarios and role-play these with your child: how to join a game, dealing with teasing, losing a game gracefully, and standing up for themselves in a conflict.

Get them into Social Situations Outside of School:

Arrange unstructured, informal playdates.

Enroll them in group activities (sports, music, or drama clubs, etc.)

Get them off screens so they can exercise their conversational skills.

Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
