Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings, Hembree Families,
What a fantastic week it’s been here at Hembree Springs! Last night’s Literacy Night was a wonderful celebration of learning, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us. Your support means so much. A special shoutout to Lucy Gilbert and our amazing staff for their time, energy, and dedication in making the evening so special. It was especially inspiring to see our TAG students proudly presenting their projects. Their creativity and depth of knowledge truly blew me away — what a joy to witness their hard work come to life!
Looking ahead, I’m excited for our next big event: the Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 19th. Below, you’ll find two flyers with all the details. One includes a QR code to purchase your meal, and the other outlines the grade-level schedule so you can plan your visit around the Art Show and Book Fair. It’s going to be a busy, joyful day — and I can’t wait to see you there!
I’m so grateful for our incredible parent community. Your presence at these events brings such warmth and connection to our school, and I truly love seeing you involved.
On a lighter note — Go Dawgs! Georgia’s win over Florida last week was a nail-biter, and I think I’ve earned a few more gray hairs. Hopefully this week’s game against Mississippi State will be a little easier on the nerves! Also, a quick heads-up: it’s going to be very cold on Monday and Tuesday, so I’ll be digging out my winter gear this weekend. You might want to do the same!
Wishing you a cozy and relaxing weekend!
Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Hearts of Hawks: Kids Helping Kids in Jamaica
Our Student Council Ambassadors are leading a service project called Hearts of Hawks, collecting essential items for children in Jamaica who were affected by the recent hurricane.
We will be collecting canned foods, baby food and infant formula (ready-to-feed or powdered), and non-perishable snacks like granola bars and crackers next week, November 10th - November 14th .
This project gives our students a chance to show kindness and compassion by helping other children in need.
And here’s a bonus, the class with the most donations will win a popsicle party!🍦
Thank you for supporting our Hawks as they put their hearts into helping others! 💙

Food Pantry Resources
As a Title I school, many of our students will be affected by the pause in in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Our community is committed to supporting our families during this time. The links highlights several local food pantry resources available to our families.
Beginning November 1, our Free Little Library will also transform into a Free Little Pantry. Families are welcome to stop by the front of the school and take non-perishable items as needed. If you are able, we’d love your help keeping the pantry stocked by dropping off items to share. Don't have time to shop? Our PTA can also accept donations to support this effort. To contribute, please visit:
https://hembreespringselementary.givebacks.com/products/c836954f10e9.
Additionally, we are sending home weekend backpacks with non-perishable food items. Please let us know if your student would benefit from this support. You may reach out to Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison. gilbertl2@fultonschools.org or at 470-254-9460 with any questions or to sign your student up for a weekend backpack.

Student Success Skills for November
Student Success Skills – Self Management
One important skill for all children to learn is self-control and how to manage their strong emotions. A child needs to learn how to manage their strong feelings without having a tantrum, hitting, yelling, or crying easily. When a child has good self-control, they make friends more easily and are more successful in school. Self-control helps kids think before they act. A child with good self-control is more resistant to peer pressure.
At home, you can help your child practice self-control by discussing and modeling ways to calm down if they start feeling strong emotions. You can discuss and practice together the TAKE 5 method:
Take five deep breaths.
Count to five on your fingers
Slowly count to five in your head.
Close your eyes and picture the hands of a clock moving five ticks
Put your head down and count to five.
Write these steps down and post them somewhere they can see them. Model the TAKE 5 strategies yourself when you are feeling angry about something. The next time your child gets mad – do the TAKE 5 steps together.
Family Engagement Thursdays
Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
