From the Directors
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Congratulations to all the ensembles who performed on the Fall Band Concert this past Thursday! Although we've had lots of logistical challenges with the Band room to begin the year, the students still worked very hard and gave wonderful performances.
Saturday's Marching Band Rehearsal/Fall Mini-Camp went smoothly even though the rain got in the way of our afternoon performance. The members worked very hard throughout the day and the entire show is now on the field! Special thank you to Christina Armendariz, Beth Lybarger, and their provisions team for putting together and serving lunch to everyone! Also a thanks to the staff from band camp who were able to make it back for a day to help us finish the drill and music!
A special message from our Uniform Crew:
- Dear Band Families, we’ve been having a growing number of students arrive at the uniform room on Fridays unprepared for Friday night games. Many students are regularly missing essential items like show shirts, black socks, gloves and marching shoes. To ensure everyone is prepared and to streamline our uniform operations, we are implementing a new three-strikes policy for missing items. Students will receive a verbal warning for the first two instances. A third missing item will result in a consequence determined by the band directors. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students stay organized, and look forward to seeing our students march with confidence and pride.
A couple highlights from me for the week ahead:
- Sunday, October 4 is the last day to purchase band portraits. See graphic below for link and gallery code.
- BOSTON TOUR Payment 2 - Due October 6. All info here: https://www.winterparkhsband.com/boston-tour-2027.html.
- Last, but certainly not least, please read all the thank-yous and important updates from our Band Booster Board below in this newsletter
Looking farther ahead at our Band calendar:
- Homecoming week will be here next week! The SOTW will perform at the Homecoming parade on Wednesday, 10/14 in Downtown Winter Park and at the Homecoming football game on Friday, 10/16. We're also excited to again welcome back the Winter Park Alumni Band for their annual reunion and to join us for the national anthem on the field and in the stands throughout the game
- On Saturday, October 17 we will join up with our friends in the bands from Freedom HS, Apopka HS, Ocoee HS, Dr. Phillips HS, Olympia HS, Horizon HS, and West Orange HS at WOHS for the annual West Side Showcase. This is by far one of my favorite events of the whole school year. For those who haven't been to the Showcase before, it is a non-competitive, no rating, super supportive pre-MPA style event. We will have a few FBA trained adjudicator’s whose sole purpose will be to provide feedback on ways to improve our shows going into Marching MPA. Each band will get to perform for all the other bands and then have a short clinic time with wind, percussion and guard adjudicators on the field after their show. SOTW is scheduled to perform FOR ALL MANKIND at 2:00 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website. Students who plan to attend the homecoming dance will be transported back to school immediately following our performance and clinic. Special this year The West Side Showcase will conclude with a performance by the UCF Marching Knights!
- Our journey with FOR ALL MANKIND concludes at Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 7 at Boone HS. This performance culminates the students' hard work and journey creating this show from Band Camp until now. This is another one of my favorite days of the school year, and I can't wait to see where the show ends up for this performance! Performance time and itinerary TBA.
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente
From our Band Booster President
Band Families,
What a great concert! It was so nice to see all the students and the music they've been working on.

From our Fundraising Chairs
Hey Band families! It’s almost time for the Lucky Goat Coffee Fundraiser 2026!
Dates: October 12-25, 2026
What is Lucky Goat Coffee fundraiser and how do I get started?
Lucky Goat coffee is fast becoming a favorite boutique brand and makes great gifts for the holiday season, birthdays or anytime. Students will make an InstaRaise account they can personalize and add emails, just like in Widdy Up. When the fundraiser kicks off, emails will go out to your customer list with a fundraiser pitch to let your customers know why you are fundraising along with an order page for the coffee.
Although the fundraiser is online only (no paper orders or cash collection are accepted), If you have customers that don't want to or are unable to use the links or QR code to place the order online, you can still collect cash yourself, then place the order through your own account and hand deliver to your customers.
There will also be a ‘Donate’ button if someone would simply like to contribute to the fundraiser.
Who do we sell coffee to?
Friends and family, of course, but you can also offer the coffee to businesses that provide a coffee bar for the employees and special customers. Lucky Goat coffee can also be offered to businesses and organizations that give special gifts to favored customers, clients and donors (think non-profits). It also makes a great addition to gift baskets, so think ahead for the holidays or upcoming birthdays or celebrations!
What are we selling?
Customers can purchase 10oz. bags of ground coffee and 10 count boxes of single serve pods. There are 7 customer favorite flavors to choose from, including Snowflake Crunch!
How do customers get the coffee?
Customers will be able to choose to have the coffee delivered to the school for student delivery or to ship to home. Ship to home cost is paid by the buyer. *Note that the coffee is not shipped when the customer places the order, but after our fundraiser ends around mid-November.* Coffee not shipped to home will be delivered directly to our school before Thanksgiving break and distributed to the students. The date will be announced when we know our delivery date. It is then the student's/parent responsibility to pick up the coffee orders and distribute to the buyers.
How to get started:
1. Use this link to create an account.
https://instaraise.com/winterparkhs/band/volunteers/register?a=r2&as=k
2. Once registered, the student will receive a link to their own personal fundraising page. Update the personal page with a photo and personalized message telling why you're fundraising and what band means to you. This step makes a big difference in customer engagement. Families and friends can share the student's personal fundraising page link with anyone, including businesses.
Look out for more information in the newsletters and Cut Time messages.

"Step Up" Your Sound with Intermediate/Professional Instruments
This time of year, many families consider purchasing a higher quality instrument for their student. While the rental instruments or student instruments many students had during middle school served them well during that time, high school music and musicians need instruments with higher quality make and materials to continue to improve. Please especially do not buy an instrument for your student from discount websites like Amazon. We music teachers refer to instruments sold on those websites as ISOs - Instrument Shaped Objects.
If you are able and considering a "step-up" instrument for your student (sometimes referred to as "intermediate" or "professional" instruments by manufacturers), please feel free to reach out for guidance. We will be happy to point you in the right direction and give options for quality instruments at fair prices.

Private Lessons - Invest in Your Future!
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
