Thanks to the community’s support of the referendum, we are beginning to see visible progress across Glenbard District 87. We recently concluded a busy summer of construction projects that totaled over $30 million of investments into our facilities to benefit our students, staff and the broader community.

Across all four campuses, we tackled a wide range of improvements this summer, including roof replacements, masonry repairs, and updates to mechanical systems, as well as many other projects that will make a lasting impact on our schools.

Glenbard West saw a number of exciting upgrades this summer. Four science labs were completely renovated, giving students and teachers updated spaces for hands-on learning. New windows were installed throughout the building, designed to match the original style while significantly improving the energy efficiency of the building. In Biester Gym, bleachers and floor were refreshed to enhance safety and accessibility while giving the space a new look. Restrooms in the Biester lobby and the field house were also upgraded to better serve the students, staff, and visitors.

Looking ahead: Glenbard District 87 has adjusted the overall project timeline for the facility plan at Glenbard West High School to provide greater flexibility in final approvals.

Construction at Glenbard West was originally scheduled to begin in November, with fencing around campus planned for mid to late October. However, in light of updated financial projections and the current economic climate—including the impact of tariffs—we have adjusted the bid package for the planned addition. This approach allows us to remain fiscally responsible and ensure that tax dollars are used wisely, while still delivering on our commitment to accessibility, safety, and learning spaces throughout the existing building.

The Board of Education will review and vote on bids in late January, with groundbreaking scheduled for early spring.

This summer brought big changes to Glenbard East. On the Main Street side of the building, the first phase of the glass exterior wall (curtainwall) replacement was completed. Paired with HVAC upgrades to improve air flow and temperature control. All classrooms and instructional spaces along the east side were refreshed with new fixtures, flooring, and lighting – including renovated science labs. The LRC has been transformed into a modern learning environment. Outside, the synthetic field surface and track were fully replaced and ready to welcome students and athletes back for the new school year.

Looking ahead: Work on the curtain wall will continue on the west side of the building next summer. We are excited to share that construction on the new visitors entry, main office, and cafeteria expansion is expected to begin as soon as October 2025. Starting in summer 2026, families and students can look forward to a new learning commons, updated exterior glass all on the west and north faces of the classroom wings, and interior upgrades including a new guidance suite and classroom finish.

Big changes are taking shape on Glenbard North’s campus. Three science labs were fully renovated this summer, restroom renovations, and brand new windows on the west and north side of the building bring natural light into these spaces. The Softball dugout and press box work is also near completion and will be ready for action this spring.

Looking ahead: We’re finalizing the design of the performing arts addition and further science lab upgrades, with construction scheduled to begin in late spring or early summer 2026. At the same time, design work will kick off of the new main entrance, learning commons, and updated art and guidance area – all aimed at creating even better learning space for students to learn and grow.

It’s been a busy and productive summer at Glenbard South. On the northwest side of the building, classrooms were renovated and new windows were installed, bringing in natural light to a large number of classrooms. Roofing upgrades were completed to prepare for the installation and activation of a new solar array this year. To improve capacity and efficiency across the entire building, electrical service was replaced.

This past spring, we broke ground on the new tennis courts and it is on track for completion soon. Once complete, the old tennis courts will be removed and replaced with sod to make way for a new full-size soccer and athletic field on the north side of the campus. Baseball and softball dugouts are on track to be ready for play this spring.

Looking ahead: We are finalizing the interior design plans for the 100 level of the classroom tower, which will feature updated classroom finishes, culinary lab renovations, science lab renovations, and new windows to be included on the north and south side of the classroom tower. This work is scheduled for summer 2026. At the same time, design will begin for an enhanced secure entrance, and renovations to the commons, continuing our investment in safe, modern, and welcoming spaces for students.
