Technology News - Chromebook Update for Grades 3-5 Technology News - Chromebook Update for Grades 3-5

Important Reminder for 2025–26

Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, Chromebooks for students in grades 3–5 will remain at school and will only be sent home when a teacher determines they are needed for curricular activities.

To prepare the devices for this change, all current 3rd through 5th grade students will leave their Chromebooks and chargers at school before the end of this school year. We will send a reminder to families closer to the end of the year, including instructions to send chargers back to school along with the Chromebooks if they are currently at home.

Thank you for your support as we make this adjustment!

Summer Nutrition Programs Mean More Summer Meals

About 30 million children participate in the USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs on an average school day. When school is out for the summer, kids lose access to these healthy meals, but they still need nutritious food to grow up healthy and strong.

Pennsylvania offers summer nutrition options to help our children reach their full potential. With SUN Meals, kids 18 and under can get free meals and snacks at schools, parks, and other group meal locations. Additionally, SUN Bucks helps families stretch their grocery budgets with a $120 grocery benefit for each eligible school-aged child, allowing you to buy more of the foods your children love!

Households can learn about the location of Summer Food Service Programs through the following means: Schools and families can use any of the following methods to locate sites that serve free meals to children during the summer:

  • Call: 1.866.3HUNGRY or 1.877.8HAMBRE
  • Text: “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 914-342-7744

Rising Leaders: Middle School Students Step into Leadership Roles Rising Leaders: Middle School Students Step into Leadership Roles

On May 20, 2025, ten student leaders from Haverford Middle School proudly represented our school at the 2025 DVCEE Middle School Leadership Institute, hosted at Abington High School. This inspiring event brought together middle school students from the Delaware Valley to develop their leadership skills through a day of engaging workshops and collaborative activities centered on equity, inclusion, and student voice.

Accompanying the students were Dr. Matthew Crater, HMS Assistant Principal; Mrs. Joellen Corrocher, Social Worker; and Mrs. Christina Carter, Director of Learning and Assessment. Together, they supported our students as they participated in sessions on identity exploration, effective communication, and taking action within their school communities. Students engaged in team-building activities, heard from student and adult keynote speakers, and joined peers from other districts in thoughtful conversations about what it means to be a leader today.

The HMS team left the institute feeling energized and empowered, bringing back new ideas to strengthen our school community. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to learning, growth, and making a positive impact at HMS and beyond!

Students Dive into Healthy Living at Coopertown's Farmers Market Students Dive into Healthy Living at Coopertown's Farmers Market

At the heart of a vibrant educational experience, Coopertown students recently took part in a hands-on farmers market event that brought healthy living to life. Set up with colorful booths brimming with locally grown fruits and vegetables, the market was a hub of learning, tasting, and fun.

Using special “play” money provided by our Food Services Department, students explored the market just like real shoppers. They practiced budgeting, decision-making, and communication skills as they purchased items ranging from crisp apples to cabbage. Each transaction was a learning moment—linking classroom concepts in math and social studies to real-world applications.

Adding to the excitement was Chef Josh's live food demonstration, which showcased a simple, kid-friendly Pico de Gallo recipe using the fresh produce available at the market.

This interactive experience not only emphasized the importance of healthy eating and supporting local agriculture but also empowered students to make thoughtful food choices. With smiles, full bags, and newfound knowledge, students left the event with more than produce—they carried home a deeper connection to their community and their own well-being.

English Learner Family Night Celebration at Manoa Elementary English Learner Family Night Celebration at Manoa Elementary

This year’s EL Family Night was a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and connection, hosted at Manoa Elementary School. The event welcomed nearly 60 families representing over 20 different countries, making it one of the most well-attended gatherings in recent years.

Students from all five elementary schools, as well as the middle and high schools, had the opportunity to meet peers who share similar cultural and linguistic backgrounds. It was a meaningful evening that helped build a sense of belonging and unity across the District.

Families enjoyed a variety of activities, including music, indoor and outdoor games, as well as pizza and ice cream. The joyful atmosphere and shared experiences helped bring the district closer together, creating lasting connections among multilingual families.

The English Language Development department was thrilled with the turnout and engagement. EL Family Night continues to be a cherished Haverford tradition, and this year’s success highlights the district's ongoing commitment to celebrating its diverse and multilingual community.

Haverford Middle School's Project Lit meets on Fridays from October to May. The club focuses on literacy and offers a variety of student-led and created literacy-based activities, book discussions, creative writing, time for literacy-related school assignments, and activities aimed at building community. They also explore local writing contests, which encouraged several members to submit their work to the 36th annual Young Poets Contest hosted by Delaware County Libraries. These amazing students have contributed to a fun, energetic, and creative club atmosphere! We hope they continue sharing their talents and engaging in literacy-based clubs and activities as they transition into high school!

This year, we congratulate two eighth-grade winners from Haverford Middle School for winning the 36th annual Young Poets contest, Emme Tilley and Ashley Garland.

June Cultural Connection June Cultural Connection

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally/internationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

Caribbean American Heritage Month. Since 2006, June has been designated as Caribbean American Heritage Month by Presidential Proclamation. The month-long observance promotes the rich culture and heritage of the Caribbean-American people and their contribution to the United States of America.

Pride Month is celebrated each June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States, the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the actual day was flexible.
