Hello Coyotes!

Happy Friday! I am very pleased to share that Calabasas High School has received the recommendation from the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) based on the accreditation visit completed at the end of March. Calabasas has received a 6 year accreditation!

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the ASB elections this week. We are grateful that so many students are excited about representing their classes and the school.

AP testing begins on Monday! Please make sure that you are carefully reading all of the messages that you receive from Mr. Wells and Ms. Lapiner. Be sure to show up to your tests on time with all of the required items and none of the prohibited items! I wish you all the best on these exams. You have all worked so hard and I hope you are able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

We will be on Traditional Day bell schedule on Monday.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

College and Career College and Career

Seniors & College Acceptance

Dear Seniors,

Congrats on surviving college applications! All results are in and we are very proud of you. We need you to update Naviance.

  1. Go into colleges I'm applying to and click on the results dropdown to select accepted, denied, january admit, etc
  2. If you were waitlisted please check that option
  3. Once you have made you decision on where you will be attending by May 1st, YOU MUST CHOOSE THE COLLEGE YOU WILL BE ATTENDING in the dropdown at the bottom of the list of colleges. This is the only way we will be able to send you final transcript after gradauation.
  4. If you will be attending a community college, please email us which school so we can enter it in Naviance. They will need your final transcript after graduation.

We appreciate your help in completing the results and are excited to see where you choose to attend college next year.

Mrs. Yumkas and Mrs. Lutsky

Important Notices Important Notices

Cafeteria is Going Cashless

To align with cashless trends, CASH will NO LONGER be accepted for Smart Snack purchases at middle and high school cafés. However, cash deposits of $20 or more can be made to student accounts, with only twenty-dollar bills or higher denominations. Funds deposited into student accounts via LINQ CONNECT will be used to purchase a second meal or Smart Snacks. We encourage families to utilize our online payment system to streamline transactions, eliminating the need for cash and providing peace of mind against loss or misuse.

Breakfast Program Update

This year, we have made some updates to our breakfast program. Breakfast will now be served exclusively during the Nutrition period and will no longer be available during the traditional breakfast break. Both breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided to all students free of charge. Students who wish to purchase a second meal may do so using the funds available in their accounts.

If You have any questions please reach out to Casey Wheat - Cafeteria Manager - cwheat@lvusd.org

Food Deliveries

Food deliveries are NOT permitted during school hours. All food deliveries will be turned away or confiscated if they arrive on campus. All students are able to receive a free meal each day provided by LVUSD that can be picked up in our cafeteria.

Motorized Bikes

With the increasing popularity of motorized bikes, we have received guidance from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department regarding licensing and age requirements for students that wish to ride these to school. For motorized bikes with no pedals, the operator needs to be at least 15 1/2 years-old and have a Class C license. Students that are underaged and/or not licensed to ride these motorized bikes to school may be cited by law enforcement.

Parking on City Streets

As more students get their driver's licenses and start driving to school, parking on the streets adjacent to CHS is becoming more crowded. We have received reports of students blocking driveways to residences and businesses, parking on sidewalks, and even parking on the lawn/yard of our neighbors. None of this acceptable and students need to stop these practices. We have been informed that law enforcement will be monitoring parking on the city streets more closely and cars will be cited that are inappropriately parked.

Morning Parking Protocol

Parents/Guardians:

Please do not park in the lower Senior lot in the mornings as these are spots that are purchased and assigned individually to students. Parents are not permitted to park and wait in their cars on campus during morning drop off. Please be mindful as this will help with morning traffic congestion and will allow for students to park and get to class in a timely manner.

Afternoon Pick-up Reminder

Please do not block the exit lane at the Mulholland Light during pick-up or drop off. It is important that we have one lane of traffic entering campus and one lane of traffic leaving campus.

Off Campus Pass Policies and Procedures (Juniors and Seniors)

In order to meet eligibility requirements for an off-campus pass, juniors and seniors must meet academic, discipline, and attendance requirements.

These requirements include:

  • Academic: No Ds or Fs
  • Behavior: No significant discipline incidents.
  • Attendance: Students with a COMBINATION of 6 or more tardies or periods absent in any classes within a 5-week period will be ineligible.

*Eligibility for OCP is processed every 5 weeks*

Media Center-Release Period Info

The Media Center is open during Periods 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 for students with a release period. The Lecture Hall is open during periods 5 and 6. If students are on campus during their release period, they must go to the Media Center or Lecture Hall (periods 5 and 6 only). For safety reasons, students with a release period cannot wander campus or sit outside. Media Center is open from 8am to 4pm.

Attendance Office Updates (Clearing Absences/Early Leave Requests)

Please check out the CHS Attendance Website to find information on how to clear an absence or request for your student to leave early. Thank you.

Reminder from the Health Office:

In order to administer medication during school hours (over the counter or prescription), you need to have the Authorization for Medication form completed and brought to the Health Office with the medication. This can be found on the CHS Website. No medication should be carried in the students' bag/backpack unless cleared by the Health Office.
PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF IN THE RED ZONES

Parking Lot and Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures

Please give yourself enough time to get to CHS as there is always heavy traffic in the neighborhood and we want students to be on time and ready to learn!

PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP STUDENTS IN THE STAFF LOT IN FRONT OF SCHOOL. This is reserved for Special Permit Pick Up and BUSES!!

Pick up and Drop off: Please proceed onto campus at the main gate on Mulholland at the traffic light. For pick up and drop off, you will proceed down the ONE-WAY ramp and then exit at the Valmar Gate. There is NO ENTRY at the Valmar Gate for pick up or drop off. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF IN RED ZONES. PLEASE PULL FORWARD INTO THE DROP OFF AREAS BEFORE LETTING YOUR STUDENTS OUT.

Visitor Parking: There are NO visitor spots in the staff lot. Any car in the staff lot without a pass will be towed. There are visitor spots in the PAEC lot and parallel to the curb along the left side of the one-way ramp next to the PAEC.

SENIOR PARKING LOT: All spots in the senior lot are assigned. All cars parked in a spot must have a 2024-2025 parking tag and vehicles must have a license plate number that matches the number on the parking lot application. Vehicles in violation of this policy may be towed without notice. Any students who have traded or sold their parking spot tag are in danger of losing their parking spot with no refund and will not be given another opportunity to purchase a parking spot.

Please drive safely in the parking lot (5 mph).

If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to register for a new account in order to make purchases for your student(s). Please make your purchase of an ASB card first in a separate transaction and then all subsequent purchase will reflect the ASB discount (when applicable).

In 2022, the voters in the Las Virgenes Unified School District approved a $340M bond to:

  • Provide modern labs, career training facilities, and equipment so students are prepared for college and in-demand careers in fields such as health sciences, engineering, technology, and skilled trades

  • Provide classrooms, facilities, and technology to support high-quality instruction in math, science, engineering, and technology

  • Repair or replace deteriorating roofs, plumbing, sewer lines, gas lines, and electrical systems where needed

  • Install, repair, or replace air conditioning systems in classrooms to improve air quality and keep classrooms from reaching temperatures above 85 degrees

  • Remove hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead pipes from older school sites

  • Keep computer systems and instructional technology up to date

  • Upgrade older schools to meet current health codes, building safety codes, earthquake safety standards, and improve access for students with disabilities

The community will not be paying on the Measure S bond until August of 2026. That said, projects are being initiated now to optimize cost and timing through prefunding the interest. This website (click here) will provide site-by-site updates about the Measure S projects, oversight, and audits in the years to come.

UPDATE, July-August 2023: Moody's Investors Services issued Las Virgenes a Aa1 credit rating. This is the highest possible rating for a district not in Basic Aid status. Moody's cited our strong fiscal position underpinned by conservative fiscal management along with uncommonly positive financial flexibility in creating unique revenue streams as reasons for the high rating. On August 24th, the first $85M in Series A Measure S proceeds will be received by LVUSD.
