Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation is next week, from Monday, Monday 4th to Friday, May 8th! While we at the building level will be celebrating our teachers, some ECC families have also asked us how they could participate in Teacher Appreciation Week. That said, we are looking to organize a series of themed days and would benefit from additional quantities of the items listed in the SignUpGenius below.

Notes from Our Nurses
By Ms. Peacock and Ms. Hemple
Spring is in full bloom! With warmer weather, blooming flowers, and more outdoor play, May is a wonderful time for kids—but it also brings seasonal health considerations. Here are some important tips to keep your child healthy, happy, and ready to learn.
Pink Eye vs. Seasonal Allergies: How to Tell the Difference
Red, itchy eyes are common this time of year—but is it pink eye or allergies?
Seasonal Allergies (Allergic Conjunctivitis): Not contagious
Itchy eyes, intense – severe (kids often rub them a lot)
Watery or teary eyes
Both eyes usually affected
Clear drainage (not thick)
Often comes with sneezing, nasal congestion or runny nose
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis): Contagious
Pink or red eye(s)
Thick yellow/green discharge (may crust over, especially after sleep)
Eyes may be “stuck shut” in the morning
Can affect one or both eyes – burning or gritty sensation more so than itching
May include mild swelling
When to see a Doctor:
If there is thick eye drainage and/or eyes are crusted shut
Complaints of severe pain or sensitivity to light
When to keep your child home:
If diagnosed with bacterial pink eye (return to school after 24 hours of treatment & no fever or as advised by their Doctor)
When in doubt, check with your pediatrician!
Managing Seasonal Allergies:
Keep windows closed during high pollen days
Wash hands and face after outdoor play
Change clothes after being outside
Talk to your child’s doctor about allergy medications if needed
Outdoor Play & Sun Safety:
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) before school
Dress children in lightweight, protective clothing
Send a hat for extra sun protection
Encourage hydration—pack a water bottle!
Bug Bite Prevention:
Avoid heavily scented lotions or soaps
Wear shoes outside
Use child-safe insect repellent if needed
Notify the school nurse of any known insect allergies
Nurse’s Note
If your child has any new health concerns, allergies, or medications, please update the school health office. Working together helps keep everyone safe!
Wishing your family a healthy and happy May!
