Notes From the Office Notes From the Office

Absences or Late Arrivals: Please email: cgabsences@fmpsd.ab.ca if you are aware that your student will be absent or late. For early pickups or changes to pickups, families should contact the office via phone.

CG Gear: Our online store is up and running for the year. Check out https://christinagordon.entripyshops.com/ to order school clothing. There is a wide variety of styles, logos, and colours to choose from!

Hot Lunch Program: Hot Lunch ordering for the year is now open. Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month in order to order for the following month. When placing your order you may notice a button to Volunteer for Hot Lunch days. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize Hot Lunch from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. This program will not continue to run without the support of parent volunteers. To place your order click on the following link (https://christinagordon.hotlunches.net) and refer to the instructions below (Digital Take Home Folder). If you have any questions you can contact our Hot Lunch team at cgshotlunch@outlook.com.

Alien Inline Family Nights: Our Alien Inline Family Nights have been rescheduled for May 27-28th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Families are able to register to attend using the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040F4DABAF2DA2FB6-56715888-alien.

2025-26 Registration: As the end of this school year approaches, staff members will be engaged in the process of grouping students into classes for the upcoming school year. From time to time we receive specific requests for students to be in particular class groupings due to extenuating circumstances. Each of these requests is considered seriously, however, it is not always possible to accommodate them given what is best educationally using our existing resources. We do recognize that parents have valuable insights and information about their child regarding their educational and social needs that may help us in our process. If you do have information that you feel we should consider, we ask that you provide this to us in writing or by emailing: richard.thorne@fmpsd.ab.ca no later than Friday, May 23rd. After this date, we will not be in a position to entertain parent requests. We cannot consider telephone or word of mouth requests. It is important for parents to realize that we only consider requests where there are extenuating circumstances that we may not be aware of. We do NOT entertain requests for specific teachers. We ask that you please do not make such requests. Much care is taken by our teachers when they compose classes to ensure that each class has a mix of students that provide for the best possible learning environment. Once these classes are created, we will not be in a position to entertain parent requests for changes. If you have not already confirmed registration for your child(ren) it is important you do so ASAP. You can do so through Parent Portal or here: https://www.fmpsdschools.ca/registration/confirm-current-student2526.

Talent Show: This year we are not having a traditional Talent Show. Instead, we will be doing video submissions. Students can get a parent to film their talent at home and send the video (60 seconds or less) to Mrs. Power at karla.power@fmpsd.ab.ca (videos are due June 2nd so that I have time to put them together). All video submissions must be school appropriate! If you are unable to have someone film them at home, students may come to the music room at lunch recess on one of the following days: Monday, June 2nd and Tuesday, June 3rd. Mrs. Power will put the video together and send it to teachers to share with their classes.

Discovery Centre FIeld Trip: We will be taking a field trip to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre on Monday, June 2nd. Students will be attending the “Junior Geologists of Alberta” program as well as getting the opportunity to explore the Exhibition Gallery. The purpose of this trip is to allow students to further explore concepts from our Earth Systems unit of study, including the organizing question of “What visible changes can be identified by examining Earth’s surface?” This is a great opportunity for our Grade 3 students to make connections to our local environment and community, as per the new program of study. This trip meets many of our Science outcomes. We will be taking a bus from Christina Gordon Public School to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. We will leave the school at approximately 9:00 am on June 2nd and return at approximately 11:50 am. There is a busing fee of $8.00 that families need to pay through Parent Portal (as with our Tubing Field Trip). Please do so as quickly as possible. If you are unable to make the payment, please contact me so that alternative arrangements can be made. No student will be left behind due to cost. If you require assistance with Parent Portal, please contact the office for further assistance.
