February 2025

Message from Principal Terri Jackson Message from Principal Terri Jackson

Greetings, Woodland Families,

I truly hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well.

Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate! In Chinese culture, 2025 marks the Year of the Snake, a symbol of transformation, wisdom, and personal growth. This year is believed to bring new opportunities for learning, renewal, and positive change. Wishing you a year filled with prosperity, happiness, and success!

February will be another busy and exciting month. First off, we look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you at our Parent/Teacher conferences. Your partnership is crucial for the success of your child. Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher. Be sure to check out the Scholastic Book Fair in the lobby during your conferences.

February is Black History Month, we will be learning about and honoring the many important contributions of our African American role models, past and present. We also will have many local guest speakers coming to Woodland on NAAPID, on February 10th, to share a favorite book, a special trade, or tradition or an inspiration with our scholars. We are excited to learn from our special guest speakers.

We will be celebrating “I LOVE to Read” month in February! The PTO sponsored Read-A-Thon will take place this month. Please look for flyers and directions from your child’s teacher. We are always looking for more ways for our scholars to fall in love with books! We are grateful for the collaboration of our PTO and our families.

As we navigate the peak of flu and virus season, we ask for your help in keeping our school community healthy by following these guidelines: Health Services

  • Please reinforce the importance of frequent handwashing with your children.

  • If your child is experiencing vomiting , diarrhea or has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, they should remain at home until symptom-free (vomiting or diarrhea) for at least 24 hours and fever-free at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.

  • Individuals with symptoms, even when mild, should remain home until they are well enough to be in the learning environment to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our students, staff, and families healthy so that we can continue teaching and learning in a safe environment. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Terri Jackson

Woodland PTO Readathon and I Love to Read Month

The annual Readathon will run Feb 10-23rd which coincides with “I Love to Read Month.” Again this year we will have in-school experience rewards for top 3 reading and top 3 fundraising classrooms. We will be utilizing the GetMovin fundraising website which we used in the fall for the Fun Run. This fundraiser helps pay for learning technology and applications used by all students like IXL. Our school goal is $12,0000 and 60,000 minutes read. Minutes read can be tracked online by parents or we will be sending home a paper calendar to also help track. Get those books ready! We thank you for your support of this event.
