What will we be learning this week? What will we be learning this week?

Reading

  • Next week, our class will continue the Writing Bridge Unit, which helps students transfer the strong writing skills they’ve built in Wit & Wisdom into GMAS (Georgia Milestones)-style writing tasks. These lessons give students meaningful practice applying strategies they already know in a structured, confidence-building way.

    Our focus will be on:
✨ Drafting strong introductions and using checklists
✨ Writing body paragraphs with clear transitions
✨ Drafting conclusions that wrap up ideas neatly
✨ Using rubrics to guide revision and improve writing

The goal is for students to feel confident, know what’s expected, and have a reliable process to show all they’ve learned as writers! 💙

Math

What We’re Learning

This week, students are learning that division means sharing or grouping equally. We’re exploring how a total number can be split into equal groups or how we can find how many are in each group.
For example:

12 ÷ 3 = 4
means 12 objects are shared into 3 equal groups — each group has 4 objects!

Students are using:

  • Counters, cubes, and drawings to make equal groups.

  • Real-world examples, like sharing snacks or dividing teams.

  • Repeated subtraction and number sentences to connect division to multiplication.

How You Can Help at Home

Try these quick activities:

  • 🍪 Snack Share: Ask, “If we have 15 crackers and 3 people, how many crackers does each person get?”

  • 🧦 Laundry Sort: Divide socks into groups of 2 — how many pairs can you make?

  • 🚗 Car Rides: Practice skip counting backward or think of division as “How many groups of ___ fit in ___?”

Reading Specialist

Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.

3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amanda Montgomery

EIP

Reminder: Your student has made multiplication flash cards in class. Please encourage them to study the cards that come home to support strategy modeling in class.

IRR

I am an interrelated special education teacher; I will co-teach in Mrs. Baker and Ms. Castillo’s classrooms this school year. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Park Street! If your child is in Mrs. Baker or Ms. Castillo’s homeroom and has an IEP, I will be their case manager this year. I will be your contact person regarding your child’s IEP needs. Please know that I am here to support your child and communicate with necessary staff information for the implementation of your child’s IEP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
