Welcome Back To Greystone!

Hi, I’m Jennifer Mayo, and I’m proud to be in my eighth year as an Elementary School Counselor! I love helping kids grow into confident, kind, and resilient humans. Whether it’s talking through big feelings or celebrating small wins, I’m here to support students every step of the way.

I’ve been happily married for 20 years and am a proud mom to two awesome kids—and two sneaky schnauzers who run the house when we’re not looking! I’m a big fan of musical theatre (the more jazz hands, the better!) and a die-hard Houston Astros fan—don’t even try to change my mind. I love to read, explore new places, and spend time with my favorite people. Life is good.

As the school counselor, my role is to support all students academically, socially, and emotionally. I work to create a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive. Whether it's helping with friendship challenges, building confidence, learning to manage big emotions, or preparing for future success, I'm here to help every step of the way.

Some of the ways I support students include:

  • Classroom Lessons on topics like kindness, respect, goal setting, and conflict resolution

  • Small Group Sessions to help with skills like friendship-building, managing stress, or handling changes

  • One-on-One Support for students who may need someone to talk without a crowd.

  • Collaboration with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure each child’s needs are being met

  • Referrals to community resources when additional support is needed

I’m here for all students, not just in times of crisis, but to help them grow socially, emotionally, and academically throughout the year. If you ever have questions or concerns, or would like to meet, feel free to contact me!

At GSES, we believe that academic success goes hand-in-hand with strong character. This year, we’re continuing our commitment to helping students grow into kind, respectful, and responsible individuals through our Core Essential Values program.

Each month, students will focus on a specific character trait—like responsibility, empathy, honesty, or perseverance—through classroom discussions, activities, and school-wide initiatives. If you use social media, we encourage you to follow Core Essential Values to stay up to date with the monthly trait and how it’s being celebrated across schools.

You can also find the monthly character trait and other helpful parent resources in the Counseling Newsletter.

Each month, your child’s teacher will choose one student from their class who best represents the character trait of the month. These students will be recognized during our morning announcements and receive a special certificate. Be sure to check the Greystone News to see their photo and celebrate their achievement!

Together, we can help our students become their best selves—inside and outside the classroom.

I am excited to serve as the Coordinator for the GSES Peer Helpers program. Peer Helpers are students who are specially trained to support their classmates through challenges they may face at school. This program encourages kindness, acceptance, and positive growth among all students.

I will begin accepting applications in September from caring and compassionate fifth-grade students who understand that life can sometimes be tough. If your child believes in the power of kindness and wants to learn new ways to support and uplift their peers, Peer Helpers may be the perfect fit!

Interested students should complete an application to be considered for this rewarding opportunity. Details about the application process will be shared soon—stay tuned!

This year, I have decided to make kindness a special focus at Greystone. I truly believe that by spreading kindness throughout our school, our students will come to understand its incredible power.

Sometimes, we all need to step outside of ourselves and think about others. By practicing kindness in unique and fun ways, I hope our students will become more aware of those around them who may need a little extra care and support.

Together, we can build a community where kindness shines every day!

Are you a cool kid in grades 2–5 who wants to spread kindness all around our school? If so, we want YOU to apply for the Kindness Club!

We’ll meet once a month to work on fun projects that help make our school a happier, kinder place for everyone. If interested, please see Mrs. Mayo for an application!

Neighborhood Bridges is about kindness, speed, efficiency, and bridging all community resources to drive direct support and care to remove barriers for children/families in need.

They use technology and social media to advocate for children and families in need, and then engage the community via a "campaign for kindness" to fill those needs. Parents & Technology Parents & Technology

Our children are growing up in a digital world, and even at the elementary level, they are using technology more than ever—at school, at home, and with friends. That’s why it’s so important to start teaching them how to stay safe online.

Digital safety means helping our kids understand things like not sharing personal information, being kind online, and knowing what to do if they see something that makes them uncomfortable. These early lessons help build healthy habits that will stick with them as they grow.

As parents, we can support digital safety by setting age-appropriate limits, talking openly about what they do online, and keeping an eye on the apps and websites they use. Most importantly, let your child know they can always come to you with questions or concerns.

By working together, we can help our kids enjoy the benefits of technology while staying safe, kind, and smart online. Below are some helpful tips for parents!
