The Behavior Beat: Parent Edition
December 2020
Parenting in a Pandemic
Let's face it.
Remote learning was not what any of us expected out of 2020.
And although teachers are working tirelessly to provide students with the best education possible under the current conditions... we can't ignore the fact that parents have needed to step in and play a much larger role in their children's education than they might be used to.
Some of you may be working full time, trying to navigate remote learning schedules for multiple children, taking a crash course in middle-school math...
(I have nightmares just thinking about it.)
Oh, and let's not forget your OTHER 80+ hour per week job as you child's personal chef, argument moderator, tear dryer, nose wiper, laundry wizard, entertainer extraordinaire, good cop, bad cop, story-book reader, night-time tucker-inner, and emotional support human...
(a job from which "sick days" are not a thing).
And you juggle these responsibilities all while trying to give yourself juuuuust enough self-care to keep your sanity during a pandemic.
Please know this:
We see you, and we applaud you.
You are some of the un-sung heroes of 2020.
But sometimes we need a break - and that's OKAY.
Sometimes we find ourselves throwing our hands up because there is A LOT on our plate, and the metaphorical "pile" is just too big.
You are not alone.
If this sounds like your current situation, then please join us for a virtual "parents' night in" with the 3 district Behavior Analysts on Wednesday December 9th, at 7:00pm. We'll be hosting a discussion on "Parenting in a Pandemic", and plan to share some helpful tips and tricks to support you on this home learning journey.
Here is the zoom link for the night: https://freeholdtwp.zoom.us/j/84345580388
We hope that you'll attend - if for no other reason than to find yourself in the good company of other care-givers who fight the good fight every day, just like you.
