Principal's Notes

September 19, 2022

Hello!

We have had a fun Homecoming Week!

We appreciate your attendance at Parent Teacher Conferences. Our partnership and relationship with our families matter! Please reach out if you have any remaining questions. We will continue to communicate about your child’s progress throughout the first semester. A HUGE thank you to the families who donated time and food for our staff on conference night. It was very much appreciated and we can not thank you enough for your support!

SECONDARY FAMILIES

Hello Elm Creek Families!

The Junior High and High School had a great week of homecoming events. The kids all did a great job decorating their hallways, competing in class games and participating in dress up days. It was great to see so much school spirit and teamwork this week.

NSCAS Testing:

Students in grades 3-8 will be taking the reading and math NSCAS Fall Assessment on Tuesday, September 20th and Tuesday, September 27th. We look forward to seeing these results and using them to help drive our next instructional steps. We will also take this assessment in the spring. We will share results with families as we receive them!

ASVAB:

The Juniors took the ASVAB today. The ASVAB is a timed, multi-aptitude test, which is given at more than 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Defense Department (DoD). All Juniors in the state of Nebraska take this test.

ACT:

The ACT is the number one way all of our students can earn academic money from the post-secondary school, training, or certificate program they attend after high school. We encourage all students to begin taking this test at least once a year as early as the ninth grade, and at least twice a year in the tenth and eleventh grade. ACT prep is something we are doing with all students to help them prepare for success. The typical student scores higher every time they take it, so exposure and taking it more only helps. Here are the ACT national testing dates for this year. If you have any questions on what you need to do to get your student signed up please contact us

ELEMENTARY FAMILIES

Hello Elm Creek Elementary Families,

Thank you for your support and attendance during Parent Teacher Conferences. If you were unable to attend, please contact your child’s teacher to reschedule or receive the information given during the conference time. We will continue to review and reinforce our PBIS expectations. Please take time to view our social media or through the app to see our PBIS weekly winners. We are so proud of the efforts from all students to be respectful, responsible, safe and kind.

MAP Reading Fluency:

We utilize MAP Reading Fluency to help monitor the progress of our students in between the MAP Growth assessments to help meet the students' academic goals . Check out this short video to learn more about this tool.

What's Cooking in the Kitchen

News from the kitchen:

  • We are excited to announce the Elm Creek Foundation has generously purchased a NEW STAINLESS STEEL SELF COOLING SALAD BAR for the kitchen. Our students will be so excited to use it once it arrives. Thank you so much to the Elm Creek Foundation for making this possible.

  • A reminder for all parents that now that we are back to our regular priced meals this means your children are able to charge to their accounts. Please make sure you have a conversation with them about whether or not you would like them to charge extras and/or a’la carte items to their lunch account. We realize this can add up very quickly. We try to have items for all price ranges, .25, .50, and .75 and extras are still $1. If you wish to not have your child(ren) charge please let us know so we can help with that. We cannot keep track of what they are allowed to spend.

  • If you send a sack lunch and your child wishes to purchase a milk please remember it is .40 and you can send money with or we can charge it to their account

We are so glad to have everyone back to school this year and look forward to providing the best meals we can yet again this year. We are always open to suggestions and favorite dishes!

From the Gridiron

Hello all,

We are off to as good of a start as you can ask for. In our first road game of the year, we beat a veteran Bertrand team 44-32. It felt good to get a little payback against a team that beat us last year. We got a little comfortable in the 4th quarter, but they rallied and finished the game strong.

In week 3, we beat Loomis 56-0. This was our best all-around performance to date. We had 4 players rush for over 70 yards this game. This is a huge credit to the performance of the offensive line. Defensively, you will never hear me complain about a shutout. They held Loomis to 45 yards of total offense. The level of focus we have had in each practice has been good. The boys are staying hungry and working to achieve bigger things.

The JV’s are 1-1 to start the year. We had a nice win over Alma to start the year and got humbled against Ansley-Litchfield. We have a long way to go, but they have responded to the loss well. They are making improvements every week. A lot of those JV players have stepped up and become great assets on special teams in the varsity games.

It is homecoming week and we host our toughest team yet. It will be a battle of the undefeateds as Central Valley is 3-0 as well. I hope to see a large and loud crowd for the game and look forward to seeing how our boys handle the challenge.

Go Buffs!
