We Didn't Go To The Museum, It Came To Us
Today, our 6th-grade students in Ms. Chalifour’s, Ms. Bedell’s, and Ms. Couto’s Geography classes participated in their first “Museum” of the year.
As part of their study of North and South America, the teachers—and even some students—brought in artifacts representing the diverse cultures, economies, and landscapes of the Americas. Students had the opportunity to explore and handle real-world items such as currency, foods, products, and other artifacts unique to different regions.
The activity allowed students to make meaningful connections between what they’ve been learning in class and the world around them, while also sparking curiosity and conversation about global geography and culture. It was a fun and interactive way to bring their studies to life, and our 6th graders truly enjoyed the experience!
Halloween Guidelines
Middle school years are often characterized as a time when students are trying to fit in or blend in with certain groups. That’s one of the reasons Halloween is such a great opportunity for our students to express their individuality and creativity in a fun, positive way. It has been a long-standing tradition at Ipswich Middle School for many students and staff to dress up in costumes on that day, and we always look forward to the excitement it brings. However, this is totally optional and there is no pressure to wear a costume. I would estimate that about 60% of 6th graders, 50% of 7th graders and about 40% of 8th graders have chosen to dress up over the past few years.
While we encourage those that wish to join in the fun, we ask that all costumes follow a few important guidelines to keep the day safe and enjoyable for everyone:
-
Costumes may not promote violence, include weapons, or depict gore.
-
Costumes should not be sexualized or risqué.
-
Masks and makeup that completely cover or hide a student’s face are not allowed.
-
All face painting or hair coloring should be done at home, not at school.
Please take a moment to review these expectations with your child so that everyone can enjoy a day that celebrates creativity, individuality, and school spirit in a safe and respectful way.

Picture Retake Day is October 30th
Retake day is for new students and staff members, transfer students, or for anyone who may have missed the initial picture day. Additionally, we welcome anyone who was unhappy with their original picture and would like to give it another try. Retake photos automatically replace original photos in school services and yearbook. If a student chooses to retake their photo, please have them return the original picture package to the photographer on picture day. We will replace it at no additional cost.
If this is the first time being photographed, just have the student/staff go to the camera and we’ll create a proof for them that will be sent to the school (and/or to their family email if we have that information). These proofs will be delivered approx. 4 weeks after picture day. An order code will be on the proof along with ordering instructions.

Teen Drop-In Center Prepares for Spooky Fun
The Teen Drop-In Center is getting into the Halloween spirit next week with two special activities for local youth.
The week's spooky activities kick off on Wednesday with a DIY light-up Halloween lantern workshop. All necessary supplies will be provided for teens to craft their own glowing decorations.
The fun continues on Friday, which is also Halloween, with a movie night. The center will be screening a Halloween-themed film complete with complimentary popcorn and drinks.
Organizers recognize that the Friday event may see lighter attendance due to trick-or-treating and other evening festivities, but they encourage teens to "pop in" before their celebrations begin.
Both events are free and open to all teens in the community.

Who Received The Appreciation Tapestry This Week?
The newest recipients of the Appreciation Tapestry are the teachers, counselors, and support staff of SEAS - Theresa Guillaume, Matt Delvecchio, Samille Taylor and Deb Davidson.
Gena B wrote, "The time and thought that they have put into creating a brand new program to meet the diverse needs of our most vulnerable students is unmatched. Each day, they come in with a positive outlook--regardless of how "stormy" the day before was--and continue to go full steam ahead in meeting student needs. (Is that enough sea analogies?) The hard work of their entire team does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We are so very lucky to have this crew!" I couldn't agree more.
