New Covid Protocols and Decision Tree
As you may know, the San Diego County Department of Public Health has changed our Covid processes several times in the last two weeks. To keep you updated, here is a summary of important things to know.
* VUSD will now be following a group-tracing approach. This means that instead of notifying families if their student was 6 feet from a positive person, we will notify you if your student was in the same class as a positive person.
* If your student is exposed at school, they may remain in school as long as you have them tested on day 3, 4, or 5 after exposure (regardless of vaccination status). You do not need to report negative results to us - but please notify us of positive results as soon as possible.
* If your student doesn't feel well or tests positive for Covid (on any test), please keep them home for 10 days. They may be eligible to return early if you provide evidence of a negative test, taken at a professional facility (not a home test). Please wait until you are approved before coming back from isolation early.
If you'd like to know more, here is the VUSD District Policy regarding quarantine and isolation, and here is the CDPH Decision Tree (English/Spanish).
If you have questions, please reach out to Assistant Principal Megan Ratliff.

School Accountability Reports (SARC)
State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.
The SARC contains all of the following:
- Demographic data
- School safety and climate for learning information
- Academic data
- School completion rates
- Class sizes
- Teacher and staff information
- Curriculum and instruction descriptions
- Postsecondary preparation information
- Fiscal and expenditure data

Community Forum Follow-up
We would like to thank all of the parents who have attended our Community Forums. Your input is extremely essential in cultivating an understanding of how we can best serve our students. Our goal is to close the feedback loop so that you know what decisions are being made at your student's school. Through our conversations and the information we receive we can provide these directly to VHS Action Groups and help facilitate future action.
*Our next Community Forum is March 23*
Information & Technology Workshops
Good news! Technology workshops will be available for parents every week.

The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
