Welcome Back Schweitzer Lions!
We are looking forward to a great school year! Our goals focus around providing students with challenges to promote academic and personal growth. This year our school will be focusing on problem-based learning and continued technology integration in our 1:1 school environment aligned with our district's Strategic Plan. We will utilize iPads in Grades K-1 and Chromebooks in Grades 2 through 4 to collaborate and create using technology as a tool. Teachers will also be involved in Professional Learning Communities to consistently meet to review student data and align instructional practices to provide students with what they need to learn.
We are also looking forward to working with parents and families to help our school be the best place for learning. I'd like to personally encourage you to become involved in our school by becoming a member of the PTO and volunteering to help in your child's classroom with centers, activities, events, etc. Together, we can make Schweitzer great!
We are excited to see the students soon and look forward to an innovative year of learning!
Sincerely,
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal, Albert Schweitzer Elementary

Immunization Reminder
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has revised the immunization requirements for students effective the 2017 - 2018 school year. This revision replaces the 8-month provisional period for immunizations with the new requirement of a 5-day provisional period.
Prior to August 2017, a parent had 8 months to complete all required immunizations. This is called provisional enrollment. As of August 2017, a parent must have all immunizations completed within the first 5 days of school.
Children in ALL grades (K-12) need the following immunizations for attendance:
- 4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (1 dose on or after 4th birthday) (DTaP)
- 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given) (IPV)
- 2 doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
- 3 doses of hepatitis B (Hep B)
- 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity (History of chickenpox or antibody titer)
Student Accident Insurance
The Neshaminy School District does not carry medical insurance for students. However, it is offered to families through American Management Advisors. An electronic copy of the brochure is offered under our Schweitzer website under the 'Parents' tab. Please check here if you're interested in purchasing accident insurance for your child/children.
