A great way to help your school

A simple way to support our school is to sign up for the Food City School Bucks program. It is free! Everytime you shop at Food City and use your value card, the school benefits! Each year, we receive a check from Food City that we use for student support needs.

To sign up, go to https://www.foodcity.com/schoolbucks. This must be done yearly, it does not carry over from the year prior.

First login to your account and select “My Account” at the top of the page. This will bring you to your customer dashboard. From here, select “Update school” and select your favorite school. Be sure to click “Save”!

JSMS Parent Involvement Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Wed. September 23rd @9am...come join us!

Our first meeting of the year was wonderful with 13 parents/guardians present, plus 4 staff members. We all shared ideas on how this group (as well as partnering with all the amazing resources in our community) can help support our students/staff.

We hope to see you on 9/23!

Middle School Weight Lifting

Weight lifting at D-B is available Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 3:15-4:00pm. This opportunity is open to all students, not just those that play a sport. All off-season athletes are strongly encouraged to come. The only thing students need in order to participate in weightlifting is an updated physical (this can be turned into the JSMS office), there is not a permission slip required for lifting.
  • Students must wear tennis shoes and appropriate clothing to lift weights in.
  • Bus transportation is provided from Sevier to D-B. Students interested in riding the bus will need to be added to the bus list for weight-lifting days. To be added, students need to bring a note from a parent to the office and the student will be added to the bus list (or parent can call the JSMS office). The note is not required each time, only the first time and then the student is added to the weightlifting bus list.
  • Parents are required to pick-up from the D-B field house (near the scoreboard end of the football field) at 4pm.
  • If students or families have any questions please reach out to Danielle Edwards, dedwards@k12k.com or Coach Fleming, zfleming@k12k.com

GENERAL JSMS INFORMATION GENERAL JSMS INFORMATION

Water bottle filling stations

We are blessed to have several water bottle filling stations located throughout the school. It is encouraged for students to bring a water bottle with them to stay hydrated. Also, this helps students from missing class time if they have water with them rather than making trips to the water fountain.

Important Information

  • Please keep your contact information updated. This can be done through your Aspen Parent Portal or by contacting the counseling office (378-2435). It's vitally important that we have current parent/guardian contact information for every student (phone numbers, address, email).
  • Bring your ID when visiting Sevier or checking out your student.
  • If you have bus questions (bus locations, pick-up/drop-off times, etc...) please call transportation at 423-578-1820.
  • Absences or faxing medical excuses - please send attendance information to ewilliams@k12k.com or fax: 423-378-2430. If needed, you can call Erika Williams directly at 423-378-2457.
  • Please try to have after school arrangements communicated with your child prior to them arriving to school.
  • For any early dismissal needs, you must arrive no later than 2:15pm. We will not be calling classrooms for students from 2:15-2:45pm.
  • Students are allowed 3 SmartPasses each day for restroom use. However, if an emergency/urgent need arises the student can explain this to the teacher (or email them if they don't want to discuss it in front of others).

Middle School Cell Phone Policy

Students’ cell phones and other electronic devices (including wireless headphones) are to be turned off and not visible upon a student’s arrival to school (upon entering the building) until the end of the student’s school day. Students must store their cell phones and other electronic devices in their backpacks (exceptions may be granted for medical or other extraordinary circumstances as determined by the building principal or designee). Cell phones may be confiscated if this rule is violated. When confiscated from students, parents will be asked to retrieve the cell phone from the school administration.
  • 1st offense - The item will be confiscated and kept at the school for a minimum of five (5) consecutive school days. To retrieve the confiscated item, a parent or guardian must contact the appropriate administrator.

  • 2nd offense - When a student has a second offense during the current semester, the item will be confiscated for a minimum of ten (10) school days. A parent or guardian must retrieve the confiscated item from the front office.

  • 3rd offense - When a student has a third offense during the current semester, the item may be confiscated for the remainder of the school year. A parent or guardian may retrieve the confiscated item at the end of the school day on the last day of the school year.

Make a goal to attend!

Each 9 weeks we have a celebration....see below how you can attend.
