Book Recommendations

Looking for a good book to read? Take a look at some excellent recommendations courtesy of our high school learners.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

It is about a girl named Persephone Fraser, who returns to her childhood summer lake house after being away for years because of a past heartbreak with her former best friend Sam Florek. As they spend time together, they confront the painful memories of their past relationship and try to decide if they can rekindle their relationship.

I love how the story creates the picture of a perfect summer living on a lake and includes relatable ideas like first love, loss, and forgiveness. People should read this book if they enjoyed The Summer I Turned Pretty series because they’re similar. Every Summer After is also a short read that is upbeat and emotional.

The Dumbest Idea Ever by Jimmy Grownley

A kid named Jimmy writes a book and the story goes over how the idea came to him, and the process of making the book.

I love the book because it’s a comic style book, so it’s easy to read. It’s also a really good story that doesn’t get boring. Other people should read this book because it’s a good read and will take up your free time. You might even be inspired to write a book of your own after reading this book.

-Malakye Galvin

The Shining by Stephen King

A man driven into madness by spirits at an old hotel while living their along with his family through a winter.

It’s a very detailed and terrifying novel filled with suspense and anxiety inducing events. It’s a really good book by Stephen King and is a lot different than the movie.
