Superintendent's Thursday Message
September 3, 2026
Opening Message From Dr. Galusi
Dear MPS Families and Caregivers,
We are underway for the 2026-27 school year! As I toured the district on Wednesday and Thursday, it filled my heart with joy seeing students reconnect, taking notes from their teachers, and bustling away to their next class. Across all our schools, the enthusiasm displayed by our students and staff made for a terrific start to the year!
My first stop on Wednesday morning was at the Missituk Elementary School, where I was joined by members of our district leadership team and WBZ-TV! Levan Reid spoke to students and staff about their excitement for the new year, what they're most looking forward to, and what they enjoy most about their Missituk Community. Visit Here to watch the full video shown on this morning's newscast.
Before sharing the rest of today's message, I want to thank Middle & High School students Colin DiMartino, Thanmaya Aman, Ellie Kassirer, Chrisley Cornet, Oliver Fouse, & Tracy Tima for speaking to our staff and administration during Tuesday's professional development day. You are our why, and your words of wisdom for our staff could not have been spoken better.
Today's message is being shared on Thursday, for there is no school for students tomorrow, September 4 or Monday, September 7. Our Medford Early Education Program (MEEP) begins Tuesday, Sept. 8, and full-day Kindergarten begins on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Thank you to everyone who helped us start these first few days so warmly. Let's have a great year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Galusi
MHS Building Project Update
The MHS Building Committee will be meeting next Thursday, September 10 in the MHS Library and on Zoom. The meeting can be viewed live on Medford Community Media & the MPS YouTube channel. During next week's meeting, which is anticipated to be shorter than previous meetings, the building committee will review space efficiencies related to Food Service & the project timeline now that we are in the Schematic Design Phase.
On Thursday, September 17, we will be hosting Community Forum #6 focused on Sustainability. This virtual only meeting invites students, teachers, community members, and technical experts to convene & brainstorm sustainable design goals and objectives for the project. Visit Here for the Zoom Link.

Meet Our New Superintendent Assistant of Special Education & Student Services!
As previously announced, we are thrilled to welcome Kim Clinton in her new role as the new Assistant Superintendent of Special Education & Student Services for Medford Public Schools. As part of her transition into position role, Ms. Clinton will be visiting each of our school communities across the district to introduce herself, gather your valuable insights and further learn how to best support our students, staff, and families.
These meetings will be offered both in-person and in evening Google Meet sessions. We hope these conversations will provide an opportunity for open dialogue where you can share your thoughts, ask questions, and help shape the direction of our Special Education & Student Services Departments.
Visit Here to see the meet & greet schedule. The first in-person session is this Tuesday for Roberts Elementary families at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria.
Fall Sports Season Underway
We’re relishing the opportunity to cheer on our Mustang Student Athletes! Our boy's golf team teed off the fall sports season earlier this week, and many of our other sports teams begin their regular seasons in the coming days. Visit Here for the complete fall sports schedule that includes all of our middle school and high school teams.
Next Thursday, September 10, come cheer on our Mustang football team, cheerleaders, and color guard at the team's first game of the year vs Malden Catholic! The home opener will promote Pediatric Cancer awareness and see our Mustang football team partner with Swirls Around the World, established in honor of former Mustang Cross Country runner and 2012 MHS graduate Mathew Cirelli. Throughout the evening there will be special celebrations of Pediatric Cancer Awareness including special ribbons, banners and Pediatric Warriors taking part in the opening coin toss.
Good luck to all of our student athletes competing this fall. Let's Go Mustangs!
