Welcome to the NFES art room for the 2026-27school year! We have been busy in art class reviewing the art room expectations and procedures and starting a collaborative tessellation art project to be displayed in the art and music hallway. We are looking forward to engaging students with inspiring art processes while building their vocabulary!
It has been so great having all of our students back in the Media Center, and welcome to all of our newcomers! Now that students are checking out books and taking them home again I just want to remind everyone to make a note of their media day. It is important that students bring their books back into school so they can continue to check out new ones!
In the beginning of the year we have spent a good deal of time reviewing all of our routines and expectations for the Media Center. These include being ready to use our walking feet, being respectful while the teacher is speaking, and always being responsible with our books, even when they are at home.
I also introduced students to the four strands of our Media curriculum so they have a better understanding of what we learn in media and why media is important! Those strands are:
Create a Culture of Reading - which is why we read so many books, including ones that celebrate the diversity we have here at North Frederick.
Digital Citizenship - which is why we discuss making safe and smart choices whenever we are online.
Inquiry - which is why we conduct research on a variety of topics, using our Media Center's book and the databases we have on our website.
Application - which is why we use our BeeBot robots to learn about coding and algorithms.
I am looking forward to exploring all of these topics with all of our grades throughout this school year!
Welcome back, North Frederick musicians! We are so excited to make music with you again this school year! In the month of September we will be focusing on classroom routines and expectations, while also practicing fundamental music skills like movement, steady beat and singing.
Please remember to check Schoology to see how your student is progressing in music class throughout the year. Students will be receiving at least one grade each week. For more detailed information about our music grading, please click NFES Music Grading Policy
3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join our North Frederick Chorus! Chorus is an after school singing club that meets on Mondays throughout the year. For more information, or to sign your student up to sing with us, click NFES Chorus Form 2026-2027
Hello NFES,
Term #1, we will be focusing on safety, teamwork, and classroom expectations within the first few weeks. 3rd-5th grade will be exploring problem solving strategies, kicking, throwing and team building skills. Pre-K-2nd will explore movement concepts, spatial awareness and kicking skills.
We will have class inside and outside, so please do your best to have your student wear sneakers or bring them to change for safety reasons on PE days. We recommend that they bring a water bottle but the water fountain is always available as well as the bathroom at all times to the students.
