Dear Chandler Creek Families,

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of the school year. We have had so much fun learning and growing together - and can't wait to see what our last month together brings us!

May is going to be a very busy month here at The Creek! Field trips, end-of-year celebrations, and field days are just a few of the many activities you and your student can expect. We hope you will join us for the fun!

As a reminder, our last 2 days of school are May 22nd and May 23rd. These are half-days for students, with dismissal occurring at 11:45am each day. EDP will not run on these days, so please be sure to make dismissal arrangements for your student(s).

Thank you for your continued support of our students, our teachers, and our school this year. Our success would not be possible without you!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

As summer break approaches, we wanted to share some fun and engaging ways to keep your child's mind active during the break. Here are some ideas to make learning a fun part of your summer activities:

  1. Outdoor Science Experiments ~ Explore the outdoors and conduct simple science experiments. You can study plant growth, identify different types of rocks, or observe insects in their natural habitat. If you travel, talk with your child about the differences in habitats they observe in their travels. You may also choose to go on nature walks or hikes as a family.
  2. Reading Challenges ~ Set up a reading challenge for your child. Create a reading list together and set a goal for the number of books they can read over the summer. Visit the library regularly to discover new books. All of our local libraries regularly hold free activities over the summer for all ages. Call the branch nearest you or check the Greenville County Library system website for details.
  3. Journaling ~ Encourage your child to keep a journal over the summer. They can write about their daily activities, experiences, and observations. This is a great way to improve writing skills and capture memories.
  4. Arts and Crafts Projects ~ Get creative with art and craft projects. Use this time to explore different art techniques and mediums. Crafts like building model cars, creating scrapbooks, or making DIY science experiments can be both fun and educational.
  5. Math Games ~ Play math games as a family. There are many board games and card games that incorporate math skills. You can also create your own math games using dice, playing cards, or household items.

We hope these ideas inspire you to make learning a fun and enjoyable part of your summer break. By building these activities into your summer routine, you can help prevent the "summer slide" and keep your child's mind engaged and active. Wishing you a fun and educational summer break!
