Imagine 2030: Effective Learning Evironments in a Changing World
Fifth of Six Updates in our Strategic Planning Series
As we continue our Imagine 2030 journey together, I'm pleased to share our fifth update, which focuses on aligning our facilities with contemporary teaching practices—a priority you helped identify in our fall surveys.
Your feedback highlighted a vision for learning spaces that better support the educational experiences we aim to provide for our students. Staff members specifically noted how outdated heating and cooling systems affect student comfort and concentration while also sharing how the right physical environments could enhance collaboration, hands-on learning, and the development of skills needed for future success.
From your survey responses, several possibilities emerged for our facilities:
Creating flexible spaces that adapt to diverse learning activities and teaching approaches
Designing collaborative environments that foster teamwork and project-based learning
Integrating technology thoughtfully to enhance rather than drive instruction
Ensuring comfortable, well-functioning infrastructure that supports student focus and engagement
Many of our building systems have served us well for many years but are now operating beyond their intended lifespan. By considering facilities in our strategic planning, we can avoid costly emergency repairs while creating intentional learning environments that match the high-quality education Haslett has always provided.
Having a strategic plan will allow us to thoughtfully consider how our physical spaces might better serve both current and future educational needs. As we move forward, we'll continue to balance innovation with our community's values and traditions, ensuring that any facility improvements support our shared goal of student success in a changing world.
Watch for our final update in this series next week. Thank you for your ongoing engagement in this vital work for our students and community.
With appreciation,
Patrick Malley
Superintendent, Haslett Public Schools

Now that we've heard from so many of you on our priorities for the strategic plan, we're asking for one more round of feedback on what we've heard so far to help prioritize what matters most and evaluate which ideas resonate most with our community.
