Mary D. Lang
October Family Newsletter 2026
Principal's Message
At Mary D. Lang, we’ve been reinforcing an important message with our students: “Our words are powerful.” Our students are doing a wonderful job learning that their words can help solve problems, express their feelings, and show kindness to others.
We are encouraging students to speak up when something is bothering them by saying, “Stop. I don’t like that.” Just as importantly, we are teaching them that if the behavior continues, they should tell a trusted adult so we can step in and help.
We encourage you to reinforce this message at home by reminding your child to use their words, respect when someone asks them to stop, and always seek help from an adult when needed. Together, we can continue helping our students build confidence, kindness, and positive ways to work through everyday problems.
Thank you for your continued parentship!

Breakfast at Mary D:)
You get a breakfast! You get a breakfast! EVERYONE gets a breakfast 🍎!
Each morning, approximately 140–160 of our Mary D. Lions are starting their day with breakfast at school! We love knowing our students are fueling their bodies and getting ready for a great day of learning, growing, and shining together🦁💙!
Full bellies + happy hearts + ready-to-learn minds = a great start to the day!
Thank YOU 😊!
A HUGE thank you to all of our parents who generously donated snacks to help fuel our teachers during our faculty meetings!
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we received enough snacks to keep our staff fueled for faculty meetings for the next 3 months! We are so grateful for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and continued support of our Mary D. Lang school family.
You truly are the BEST! Thank you again!
P Pod💙🤍
The P Pod has been doing an amazing job learning our school expectations, routines, and what it means to be a Mary D. Lang Lion! Our students are making new friends, building confidence, and becoming more independent each day. They have been working hard, learning so much, and having lots of fun along the way. We are especially proud of how they are learning to take care of themselves, take care of others, and take care of our school. It has been wonderful watching our P Pod students grow together, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish this year!
M Pod 💙🤍
The M Pod is kindergarten ready! Our kindergarteners are settling into their classrooms, building independence, and discovering just how exciting learning can be. From exploring new skills and working together to sharing smiles and making new friends, our days have been filled with wonderful moments. We love watching our M Pod students become more confident each day and show their Mary D. Lang Lion pride. It’s been a fantastic first month, and we are excited for all the learning, growing, and fun still to come!
U Pod💙🤍
The U Pod is settling into kindergarten and doing a fantastic job learning our daily routines! We have been especially busy strengthening our fine motor skills through fun, hands-on activities that build the little muscles in our fingers and hands. These important skills are helping us prepare to hold our pencils, form letters, cut, draw, and become confident writers. We are learning, creating, and growing stronger every day. Way to go, U Pod!
Say, "Cheese!" 📷
Our students came dressed to impress for Picture Day, and they absolutely understood the assignment! From the big smiles to the adorable outfits, our Mary D. Lions were picture-perfect.

Parents as Partners - Our Parentship
One of the best ways to instill a love of reading in your child is to read with them every day! Do you want to do more to help your child become confident readers and spellers? Each week in school, your child learns letter sounds, spelling patterns, and high-frequency words. You can make a big difference by reinforcing these skills at home in fun, simple ways.
👍 Easy Ways to Help at Home
- Sound Practice
Ask your child to say the sounds of the letters or patterns they’re learning (ex: m, a, s). You can use sticky notes, flashcards, or even write them in sidewalk chalk! - Word Building
Help your child make new words by changing the first letter. For example: cat → hat; hot → cot. - High-Frequency Words
Post high-frequency words (like the, said, was) on the fridge or bedroom wall. Practice reading them in a “silly voice” (robot voice, whisper, singing). - Everyday Word Hunt
While shopping, driving, or cooking, ask your child to spot words, letters, or patterns they know.
🌟 Quick Tip
Keep practice short (5–10 minutes) and playful—consistency matters more than length! Little bursts of practice each day make a big difference.
