High Honor students received all As in Quarter 1.
Opportunities for Biomedical Pathway Students
Doctors Safran and Thomas were kind enough to come visit with our CTE Biomedical Sophomores this past week to discuss the programs' amazing opportunities. The goal of the program is to engage BIPOC students over the next two summers in the field of Cancer and research. Students will shadow their assigned Doctor on rounds, engaging with patients, and looking to current research on how best to treat various cancers throughout the 6-week experience. A great fit for our Biomedical Kids, and if that is not enough, 2500 each summer! Everyone is excited and are developing their Resumes and Cover letters to increase their chances of being selected for this prestigious opportunity.

National Honor Society at JSEC
This fall, JSEC formed a chapter of the National Honor Society for the first time in several years. The Juanita Sanchez National Honor Society is an organization designed to recognize those individuals who consistently display outstanding effort and achievement. Students are awarded this honor based upon exemplary academic achievement, character, leadership, and service traits, portrayed in their school and community. To be eligible a student must have maintained at least an 85 overall grade point average (GPA) through their senior, junior, and/or sophomore years. The student must then apply to the National Honor Society.
English teacher, Caroline Greene, spearheaded the formation of the chapter by inviting qualifying students to join the chapter and forming a Faculty Council. Ms. Greene will serve as the advisor to the JSEC National Honor Society and will work with the Faculty Council to develop and periodically review selection procedures and disciplinary procedures.
NHS will recognize the highest achieving students in grades 10-12, while simultaneously promoting a positive school climate and providing opportunities to motivate all students to reach their full potential. Some of the benefits of NHS include:
· Support for students and parents with college admission and financial aid planning, leveraging unique member-only resources and tools, including webinars, virtual events, and scholarship search.
· Assistance in making higher education possible through the NHS Scholarship program. Since 1946, this program has awarded 16,000-plus scholarships totaling more than $13 million to seniors who best reflect the values of NHS.
· Leadership development and student empowerment opportunities, through events like LEAD Conferences.
· An affinity for service, enabling students to make significant contributions to their schools and communities.
