Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

We began the week with our first snow day of the school year, having received about 15 inches of fresh powder on Sunday and Monday. The temperatures remained on the cold side this week, but we were able to make it back to spruce peak for another wonderful day of skiing and skating on Wednesday! As the bus mad it's way toward Stowe, the sun came out and it was a glorious afternoon. The snow day made for another abbreviated week, but we still managed to get quite a lot accomplished. This is a highly productive time of year for kids and is ofter the time of year when we see the greatest academic gains.

This week, during writing, students wrote their first drafts of the explanatory writing by putting together all the components they have worked on over the past month. This writing process really teaches them about them importance of the planning process as we find we spend more time in the planning phase then we do the actually writing.

During math this week, first graders solved problems situation involving teen numbers. Second graders measured items using inch rulers, and third graders matched division expressions to situations.

Our fourth afternoon afternoon of skiing and Skating at Spruce Peak is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4th. Parent Volunteers are Rob and/or Raige Bowen (skiing and transporting skis/poles) and Ashley Eident (skating). The Soriano's are providing a snack.

We enjoyed a delicious Family Hot Lunch consisting of Spaghetti, salad, and brownies for dessert on Friday. School Hot Lunch is available next week on on Monday and Wednesday. Salads and Sandwiches are available Monday - Thursday. Please submit lunch orders by 6:00 pm on Sunday.

We had a new faucet installed on Friday, however the water will need to be tested again before we will be able to drink it. Our head a facilities is working on getting a water bottle refill station that will filter water. We have a supply of bottled water available to drink, however please continue to send water from home, if possible.

In your Friday folder this week, you will find a notice about the 100th day! We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Tuesday, February 10th. Students have an assignment to plan and create a 100th day project at home. Students did some initial planning at school today where they thought of 3 ideas for projects. They are asked to pick from one of these ideas and then make a more detailed plan over the next week. Projects are due on February 10th.

There is also a letter about Valentine's Day. We will be celebrating on Friday, February 13th by exchanging friendly valentine's with each other. There is a class list on the back of the letter.

Many of you know that Carrie Riker, our ECO naturalist teacher suffered from a significant medical event which she is currently receiving intensive rehabilitation for at Helen Porter Rehab in Middlebury, VT. The kids all made cards for her at school before Christmas, but if anyone would like to send personal cards the address is Helen Porter Rehab & Nursing, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT. 05753.

A Go Fund Me is linked below if you would like to donate.

That is all for now! Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

In gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
