Chatting with Grade 12s
Choosing universities, courses and careers can be confusing and scary. For many KISC students it can also mean moving to a new country or one that is ‘home’ according to their passport but that doesn’t feel like home.
We’re planning 4 sessions in the New Year where this year’s Grade 12s can chat with alumni to learn from their experiences. The topics will be:
1. university applications process/experience (January 17th)
2. cultural adjustments to living in a new country (February 7th)
3. practical adjustments to living in a new country (February 28th)
4. leaving well - advice for your last few months at KISC or in Nepal (March 21st).
Thanks to those who have already offered to take part but if you haven’t been in touch and would like to help, please contact alumni@kisc.edu.np for more details.
Where are they now?
Dawa Steven Sherpa: entrepreneur, mountaineer, adventurer and KISC alumni! It was a pleasure to catch up with Dawa recently when he visited KISC.
Dawa spent his secondary school years at KISC when it was based at Satobato and then moved to Naya Baneshwor. Having completed his A-levels in 2002, he went to Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, where he studied Business Administration. After gaining an honours degree, he returned to Nepal in 2006 and took over as Managing Director of Asian Trekking, his father’s established trekking and adventure company. Read the full interview.
Buy a Book for Christmas
KISC EQUIP (www.kisc.edu.np/about-equip) supplies ‘Classroom Libraries’ to its partner schools so that the students can develop a love of books and stories.
A grade 4 student from one of our partner schools in Lamjung said: “I enjoy reading books about animals and about clever people. We read books from our Classroom Library. I want to become a writer in future and write similar books especially about speaking animals and clever people.”
If you would like to gift a book for a KISC EQUIP classroom library this Christmas, please go to https://www.kisc.edu.np/givekisc and donate the cost of an average book in your country. Please mark your gift ‘Book for Christmas’. Thank you!
If you would like to know more about the work of KISC EQUIP you can sign up for their newsletter. Email alumni@kisc.edu.np and we’ll add you to the EQUIP mailing list.
The KISC Alumni page on our website
Have you checked out the alumni section on the KISC website yet? Visit the KISC Alumni page on our website.
Please continue to spread the word about the Alumni Programme! We now have 98 people signed up which is great, but we know there’s many more that could get involved. Can you put the website link on your Facebook page? If you are in touch with any friends from your KISC days, please let them know.
We’d also like to start getting some updates and stories on the website. Have you met up with any of your old friends from KISC recently? If you’ve got pictures and you’d like to share them, please send them in and we’ll put them on the website. It would be a good idea to first check with those friends that they’re happy for their picture to be shown in public! Also please tell us ‘who, where and when’.
If you’d like to be interviewed for our ‘Where Are They Now’ section, or you’d like to contribute your own story, please get in touch!
