"May Newsletter"

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, there are many important updates and exciting events to share!

Assessment Season

From May 5–9, we will be completing make-up testing for ISASP. Beginning May 12, all grade levels will participate in iReady testing, and throughout the month, classrooms will also be working on district curriculum assessments. Having students present, well-rested, and ready to focus will help them do their very best—thank you for supporting them at home!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for incoming students will take place on May 12–13. Please note that current kindergarten students will not have school on those two days.

Join us on May 20 for our final music performances of the year, directed by the wonderful Mrs. Rathke.

Message from our Attendance Specialist

Yay we made it to May! As summer is right around the corner, I want to encourage parents and students to finish strong by continuing to attend school regularly. May is a month of testing and end of the year activities like field trips and class parties! We want for every student to have a chance to be a part of these end of the year activities. Let’s finish strong and keep our momentum going through to the very last day!! Thank you again to the parents and staff for all the hard work that you all do to support our students!

  • Here are some tips to finish the school year strong
  • Help your student stay healthy by getting adequate sleep and eating healthy foods.
  • Try to schedule non-urgent medical appointments and extended trips when school is not in session.

  • Inquire with our school staff about support available if challenges with attending school arise.
  • For support with attendance please contact:

Box Tops - New Scanning Feature

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.

If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for Loess Hills. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.

Casey's Rewards for Loess Hills

Download the app, enter rewards number when visiting Casey's. Cash out rewards to Loess Hills.

Bullying and Harassment Free District

The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.

Bullying and harassment are defined as any electronic, written, verbal, or physical act or conduct toward a student which is based on any actual or perceived trait or characteristic of the student and which creates an objectively hostile school environment that meets one or more of the following conditions:

  • Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or property.
  • Has a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health.
  • Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s academic performance.
  • Has the effect of substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school.

If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
