November 2025
Message from Superintendent Serrano
Dear Hondo Valley Students, Staff, Families, and Community,
As we transition from a vibrant October into the reflective time of Thanksgiving, I am filled with immense gratitude for the spirit and support that define our community. On Thursday, October 30th, we witnessed the incredible success of our school's recent festival, a truly heartwarming event that brought us all together and highlighted the very best of the Hondo Valley.
The success of the festival was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our students, staff, parents, and community volunteers. Seeing our families enjoy the activities, the fellowship, and the celebratory atmosphere was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we work as one united school family. This event not only fostered a sense of togetherness but also underscored the deep community pride we share in our schools.
During this Thanksgiving season, I want to express my deepest appreciation for your unwavering support of Hondo Valley Public Schools. Your involvement is crucial to our students' success, and events like the recent festival demonstrate the strength of our partnership. Your continued commitment makes a significant difference in the lives of our children.
Let us carry this positive momentum forward. As we gather with our loved ones this November, I wish each of you a positive and peaceful Thanksgiving. May your homes be filled with joy, warmth, and gratitude.
Thank you once again for being an integral part of our Hondo Valley family.
With heartfelt thanks and warm wishes,
Miguel Serrano

A Note from Nurse Liz β November Health Tips
As the weather turns colder, so do the chances of catching a cold or the flu! Please remind your children to wash their hands often, cover their coughs and sneezes, and avoid sharing drinks or utensils. Make sure they get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, and stay hydrated to help boost their immune systems. If your child has a fever or is feeling unwell, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours. Letβs work together to keep our Hondo Valley Eagles healthy and learning all season long!

Mr. Romeroβs students are taking on an exciting STEM challenge by designing and building their own hydrodynamic ice cream factories! Through teamwork and creativity, students are learning how water flow, motion, and engineering design come together to power a mini ice cream production system. This hands-on project combines science, technology, engineering, and math in a fun and delicious way!
Mr. Lamb's Life Science- Entomology Project
Mr. Lambβs Life Science students recently wrapped up an exciting unit on Entomology, the study of insects! As part of the lesson, students created and showcased their very own bug collections, displaying a variety of specimens they collected and identified. The project sparked curiosity and creativity as students explored insect anatomy, habitats, and roles in the ecosystem. Great job to our budding scientists for their hard work and enthusiasm!
Exploring Art, History, and the Future: Hands-On Learningβ
Mr. Shieldsβ classes dove into two hands-on learning experiences this month! In 11th-grade U.S. History, students explored Native American art through a virtual field trip with historian Ruby Gray, reflecting on βDo You See Me Like I See Me?β by comparing self-portraits with peer interpretations. In Emergent Technology, students used AI to investigate MITβs 1972 global collapse predictions and brainstorm solutions for a more sustainable future.
