Freshman Engage Welcomes the Class of 2029!

On Wednesday, the school halls filled with student groups and resources ready to welcome the incoming Freshman class. Future students mingled with over 40 student groups, athletic teams, and community resources available to them in high school in an event that showcased the diversity of WHS programs and how to get involved. Thank you to all of our students, staff, and community members who helped make our incoming 9th graders feel welcome!

Thank you especially to the 8th-grade families who turned out for this event! The students and staff at WHS loved getting the opportunity to meet you all, and we can't wait to see all you future Panthers this fall. We'll see you in August for Ignite and the first day of school!

Wenatchee Athletics Announces Alyssay Mena as Head Cheer Coach

Wenatchee High School and Wenatchee Athletics are excited to announce the hiring of Alyssay Mena as the new Head Cheer Coach. A proud WHS alumna and former Panther cheerleader, Mena brings over a decade of diverse cheerleading experience to the program.

Mena has served as the WHS assistant cheer coach for the past three years, where she has played a key role in supporting team development, fostering school spirit, and promoting athletic collaboration. Mena currently works as a CTE paraeducator at Pioneer Middle School and is set to graduate this June from Eastern Washington University with her teaching certification.

"I am honored to step into the role of Head Cheerleading Coach at Wenatchee High School," said Mena. "As a former Panther cheerleader, this program holds a special place in my heart. I am passionate about building well-rounded athletes who lead with spirit and pride in our school and community."

Tryouts for the 2025-26 cheerleading team, with Mena at the helm, will be held later this month, May 27 - 30th. Read the full press release on the Wenatchee Athletics website.

Proposed Phone-Free Schools Policy

This week, Wenatchee School District released a proposal to implement a phone-free environment district-wide. The proposal is in response to a survey conducted in Fall 2024 and focus groups consisting of parents & guardians from throughout the WSD. Because elementary & middle schools already follow a phone-free model, the biggest impact will be here, at Wenatchee High School.

Please see the attached letter, available in English and Spanish, from WSD Superintendent Kory Kalahar, and visit the district's full statement and proposal on the website.

Additionally, the district will also host a community meeting on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:00 PM at the District Office (235 Sunset Ave.) to discuss the proposed policy. Consider attending to have your voice heard on this matter.
