This month in the Art Room is about ALL the FALL things!

Kindergarten will begin the month finishing their bear projects. Then, they will read Gustavo the Shy Ghost & make bright, happy ghosts that glow under a black light! They will finish the month learning about secondary colors & creating a pumpkin project using green, orange & purple!

1st Graders will finish up their polka dot pumpkins & then begin on a black cat & pumpkin project that reviews secondary colors. At the end of the month, they will make a fall landscape!

2nd Graders will be creating 3D pumpkins to start off the month. Then, they will work on some patterned spiders! They will get to use chalk to create a fall landscape and finish October by starting on a weaving project.

3rd Graders will be learning about Vincent van Gogh and creating a sunflower project based on his series of paintings. This will take a few rotations, and then they will get to make some skeleton cats!

4th Graders will practice using color (value) to create implied form this month as they create pumpkin drawings using crayon & charcoal pencil and also a spooky forest cottage landscape painting.

It’s going to be a great month in the Art Room!

The Science Lab this month will continue investigating properties of matter and changes in matter. We will also begin our investigations of force, motion, and energy. Help your scientist notice how matter can change states through processes, like heating and cooling.

We will explore the important role of engineers in our world. If you are an engineer, feel free to discuss your job with your student and how you are able to help our society.

There may even be some particularly interesting engineering challenges and experiments in this festive fall season. Remember to always stay curious!

Skills, Spooks and Team Spirit

Over the next few weeks, students will be developing their throwing and catching skills through a variety of fun games, challenges, and activities. We’ll be learning how to control the ball, aim with accuracy, catch with confidence, and work together as a team!

As we wrap up October we will shift into some festive cooperative Halloween-themed games that focus on teamwork and movement in a fun and playful setting. Plus- students will build rhythm, coordination, and self-expression by learning the moves to the iconic “Thriller” dance.
