Principal's Corner - October 8, 2026
Happy Thursday, LTE!
The Squires have a long, 4 day weekend to look forward to! Tomorrow 10/9 and Monday 10/12 are school holidays for our students. The teachers are hosting parent conferences tomorrow during the day and you should have received communication from your child's teacher regarding that schedule. We hope you are able to join us to celebrate the amazing progress your children are making this school year.
Next week we are gearing up for one of our biggest events of the year, our Fall Festival! PTA hosts this community-wide event and all are welcome. If you are able to attend, it's an event the whole family will enjoy. Check out the details and purchase your tickets today using the links below and help support our Squires!
Fall pictures are scheduled for next week, October 15th and 16th. Details will be shared by our teachers next week so kids are prepared to show off their best smiles!
Have a wonderful, long and restful weekend everyone.
With appreciation,
Amanda Prehn

Counselor's Corner
October Word of the Month: Courage!
Courage is feeling scared or nervous about something, but doing it anyway because it’s important to do the right thing. It takes courage to be an upstander. An upstander is someone who takes action to help someone who is being hurt, bullied, or treated unfairly, instead of staying a silent bystander.
Discussion questions for home:
Describe a time you were brave and scared at the same time?
What are some small, quiet ways to show kindness to someone who seems hurt or left out?
What can you do if you see someone being treated unfairly?
Unity Day October, 21 wear and share the color orange!
Unity day is a special day when people across the country wear orange to show they stand together for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. The bright vibrant color reminds us that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and respected. Together we can strengthen our school community by having courage to be an upstander and prevent bullying!

DISCOVERY/GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM REFERRAL - DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 10/15
Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
Discovery, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is the enrichment program provided for students who have been identified as intellectually gifted and talented. All students are eligible to be selected for the Discovery program at each campus. In order to be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. The Discovery Program is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via Google form.
Elementary Form - For Grades 1, 3, 4, 5
Second Graders will not need a referral. The entire grade level will be screened in October. More information to come.
Kindergarten students can be referred for GT testing beginning in January 2027. More details will be shared regarding this process at the end of the first semester.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit the Google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator. (This applies to families that haven’t already been in touch with the GT coordinator.)
Parents can submit referrals for screening by October 15, 2026. Testing will occur during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the next opportunity for the student to be screened will be the following academic year. Spring screening is reserved for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed and for kindergarten students.
The forms, program information and campus coordinator names can be found on the district Gifted and Talented page.
Once the request is submitted through the Google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email after October 15th to share pertinent information.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator at any time with questions.
