Digging Into Fall
November at Grand Valley Middle School
As we move into November, it’s hard to believe how quickly this school year is moving! November brings shorter days, cooler weather, and a great opportunity to pause, reflect, and refocus on what matters most: learning, growth, and the relationships that make our school community strong.
Remember to turn your clocks back! Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1. As routines shift with the time change, it’s a good opportunity to reset sleep schedules and help students arrive at school ready to learn.
We will also hold Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. These conversations are an important way to celebrate student successes, discuss progress, and work together to support continued growth. We appreciate the partnership between our families and teachers!
November is a wonderful time to recommit to good learning habits. Consistent attendance, arriving to class on time, bringing needed materials, participating in lessons, completing assignments, and treating others with kindness all make a difference. Middle school students are still developing independence and responsibility, and the encouragement they receive at home plays an important role. Please continue checking in with your student about what they are learning, what they are proud of, and where they may need support.
We will also take time to honor our veterans. Our students will travel to the high school for a Veterans Day assembly, providing an opportunity to recognize and thank the men and women who have served our country. We are grateful for the chance to help students understand the importance of service, sacrifice, and gratitude.
Finally, I want to recognize the great learning work happening every day at GVMS. Our students continue to grow, take on challenges, and develop the skills they need to become confident, independent learners. Our teachers work hard to create engaging lessons, build meaningful relationships, and support every student’s progress. Learning is not always easy, and growth takes perseverance, but the effort our students and staff put in each day matters.
At Grand Valley Middle School, we believe that together, we build resilience, relationships, and independence. Thank you for being part of that work and for partnering with us to help every student succeed.
As we look ahead, remember that November is a shorter school month with the Thanksgiving holiday week approaching quickly. Every school day counts, so let’s make the most of our time together by staying focused, maintaining strong learning habits, and finishing the month on a positive note. I hope your family enjoys a restful and happy Thanksgiving break!
Go Cardinals!
Lost and Found!
Our Lost and Found bin is already full! Please have your student check this bin, located in the entry near the office, to claim their items. We have a large number of sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, pencil pouches, notebooks and more!
Learning and Fun Go Together
Our Friday Morning Meetings have been bringing fun and celebration to the week. We celebrate learners, work on our values and do a little dancing.
Our Cardinals are also getting to have some fun in class. Mrs. James's Mythology class took Icarus to court for "flying too close to the sun." The jurors had some pretty tough questions for the witness, Daedalus.
Is Icarus guilty?
