ECE Principal's Message
October 13, 2026
Dear families and community,
Thank you for all of the support for our Color Blast Fun Run Fundraiser! We raised over $17,700! We've earned an inflatable costume teacher race! These funds help the PTA provide classroom grants, student enrichment, family events, support field trips, and so much more! The Color Run on Friday was so much fun! A big thanks to our PTA for organizing the event and all of the volunteers who came to throw color and all of the families who came out to watch and participate. The weekend challenge winner was Mrs. Samson's class - they brought in over $1100 over the weekend and they've earned a popsicle party! We also had two students bring in over $1000 and earn they will get to pie a staff member!
This week we will be participating in the world's largest Earthquake Drill. The Great Shake Out will take place on 10/15 at 10:15. The whole district will be participating and it is a great time for families to think about what you would do in the event of an earthquake. You can visit their website at this link: https://wwww.shakeout.org. I've included some posters below from that website to help families get started.
Respectfully,
Michele Ricci, Ed.D.
Principal

Drop off and Pick up procedures
- Drop-off: Students may be dropped off at 8:15am for breakfast or 8:20am if they are going to class. The curb lane in front of the school is used for active unloading.
- Please do not park in this curb lane during drop-off. It is okay to get out of the vehicle and help your student out of the car. Students may walk down the sidewalk to the front door. It is okay to drive forward to an open spot. Please be careful and watch for cars pulling around on the left.
- Pick-up: Families will park their cars and walk to the front entrance of the school for pick-up. A school staff member will ask each family who they are picking up and will check identification as needed. Students may only be picked up by the individuals listed in Skyward.
Please do not park or wait in the road as it blocks other cars from safely getting to and leaving ECE.

Recess in Rainy Weather
Our students will go outside for recess on rainy days. Please help your child come prepared by sending them to school with weather-appropriate clothing, such as a rain jacket, waterproof shoes or boots, and layers as needed.
We also recommend packing a complete change of clothes in your child’s backpack, just in case they get wet while playing.
Thank you for helping us keep our students comfortable, active, and ready to enjoy recess—rain or shine!

Share your voice: Family survey open until Oct. 30
Family feedback is an important part of helping us improve and provide the best possible education for all students. We invite you to take a brief survey and share your thoughts about your child's school experience. The survey takes approximately 8-10 minutes to complete and is open through Oct. 30, 2026.
To access the survey, visit: https://ceesurveys.org/s/lakewood-sd-ees-family-v4-3-fall-2026
- Choose your preferred language on the opening page of the survey.
- Select your child’s school. If you have children in multiple schools, complete one survey per child.
- Complete the survey and click submit.
Your input gives us valuable information to support our building’s School Improvement Plan and all our students. Thank you for your feedback.
SOCKTOBERFEST 2026
Warm feet. Fresh starts. Stronger community.
Lakewood students, families, and staff: this October, LINC NW and the United Lakewood Community Coalition are teaming up to turn everyday essentials into a whole lot of comfort - and we need your help!
From October 1 through October 30, everyone across the Lakewood School District is invited to celebrate Socktoberfest by donating new, unopened packs of socks and underwear. We are collecting all sizes and cuts for children and adults, because something as simple as a clean pair of socks or underwear can bring dignity, confidence, and relief to a neighbor in need.
Joining in is easy: students and families can add a pack to the cart during their next shopping trip, classes can rally around a collection goal, and staff teams can challenge one another to fill a donation bin. Every package helps connect Lakewood's generosity with local families.

Snohomish County Elections will mail ballots to voters on October 9. Be sure to check your mail and return your ballot. Official ballot drop boxes are the most reliable and direct way to return your ballot. If you prefer to mail your ballot (no stamp needed), Snohomish County Elections recommends mailing at least one week before Election Day to ensure a timely postmark.
One convenient option is the ballot drop box across the street from Lakewood Middle School. Ballot drop boxes close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Need to register to vote or update your address? October 26 is the last day to register or update your voter information online for the November 3 election. Learn more at votewa.gov.
