Greetings World Class Parents/Guardians,

At Hawthorne Elementary, we believe in celebrating our students’ academic growth and achievements. This week, we hosted a special Glow-Up Dance Party to recognize students who met or exceeded their MAP Growth RIT goals! The RIT score is an essential part of the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment. It measures a student’s academic performance in reading and math and tracks their growth over time. Each student’s RIT goal is personalized, focusing on their individual progress rather than comparing them to others. Achieving or exceeding this goal is a fantastic accomplishment, showing hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to learning.

We are so proud of our students’ efforts and were thrilled to celebrate their success in such a fun and engaging way! Thank you for your ongoing support in helping your child grow academically. Together, we can continue to foster a love for learning and help every student shine.

We are so proud of our Hawthorne Hornets soccer team and the incredible season they had! To honor their hard work and dedication, we recently held a special celebratory reception. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Barnes and Ms. McKandes for organizing this memorable event, and to Mrs. S. Jones for the decorations that truly set the tone for the celebration. Thank you to Ms. Lewis for creating a slideshow that captured the highlights of the season. We are also grateful to Maike Caudle Rozhavsky for generously providing the delicious cake and to Susana Giackero for your support throughout the season and the framed team picture. We’d like to extend our appreciation to the Hawthorne PTA for the personalized bags — such meaningful keepsakes for our players. Finally, thank you to all of our parents for your encouragement and support, which truly made this inaugural season special.

It’s because of our dedicated staff, families, and community that we can celebrate such wonderful moments together. Congratulations again to our soccer team—we are proud of you!

THIS WEEK, we are inviting our Faculty, Staff and STUDENTS to participate in our Hawthorne ES School Holiday Spirit Week, please see the Spirit Week schedule below that I initially included in the weekly newsletter approximately 2 weeks ago. Additionally, the BETA club food drive continues thru Wednesday December 18th, 2024.

As we approach the 18th week of school, reminder to complete our MID YEAR SURVEY! Please click link below to complete! Thank you to all that took the time to provide us some reflection so that we can improvement. Your feedback is valuable to our improvements. We want to hear from you! The survey will close on Friday, December 20th.

I want to remind you once again of the importance of consistent attendance. Please ensure that your child is at school every day, on time, unless they are genuinely ill. It’s critical that students do not miss more than 18 days in a school year. Our overall attendance rate last year was 93%, but our goal is 95% this school year and we need your help to maintain this goal. Daily attendance plays a direct role in academic success, and it’s essential that your child arrives before 7:45 AM to avoid disrupting the learning environment for others. If you’ve recently moved, please notify the school immediately.

Additionally, I continue to ask that all families review our shared safety responsibilities to help keep our community secure and welcoming for everyone. During carpool hours, it is so important that you follow the guidance of our school staff on AM and PM duty to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

More great events happening this week!!! Please see links below to support. We look forward to seeing both families and students actively engaged!

Thank you always for entrusting us with the privilege of educating and nurturing your children!

Proud to Serve,

-Principal Henley
