Smoky Hill Buffaloes Newsletter
This Week at the Hill

Principal's Message
Dear Smoky Hill Community,
I want to take a moment to share some important personal news with you. After much reflection and consideration, I have accepted the position of Executive Director at Bromley East Charter School in Brighton, Colorado and will not return to Smoky Hill for the 2026-2027 school year.
This decision was not easy because Smoky Hill High School has meant so much to my family and I. Serving this incredible community for the past seven years has truly been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. Together, we have celebrated achievements, overcome challenges, supported students through difficult moments, and built a culture rooted in relationships, care, equity, and the Buffalo Way. I am deeply proud of everything we have accomplished.
Ultimately, this decision came down to family. The opportunity to work closer to home and spend more time with my family was something I needed to prioritize during this season of life. While I am excited for this next chapter, leaving Smoky Hill is incredibly emotional because this community will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you for your partnership, your trust, your dedication, and your support over these past seven years. Thank you for the countless ways you show up for your children and for one another. Smoky Hill is an extraordinary place because of you.
No matter where I go, I will always be proud to call myself a Buff.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andre Bala
Principal

Dear Smoky Hill Community,
As we approach the end of the school year, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for their continued commitment, support, and Buffs pride throughout the year.
Over the next few days, students will be preparing for end-of-year final exams. We encourage all students to finish strong by attending classes, reviewing their materials, completing assignments, and giving their best effort. Final exams are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and close the school year with confidence and pride.
We are also excited to celebrate our seniors as they prepare for graduation. The Class of 2026 has worked hard to reach this important milestone, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments, leadership, resilience, and contributions to Smoky Hill High School. We look forward to honoring them and celebrating this special moment with their families.
I also want to recognize and congratulate every student who received an end-of-year honor, award, scholarship, or special recognition. Whether in academics, athletics, activities, leadership, the arts, service, or personal growth, your achievements matter, and we are proud of the excellence you bring to our school community.
As summer break approaches, I wish all of our students, staff, and families a safe, restful, and relaxing summer vacation. Thank you for being part of ONE HERD and for helping make
Smoky Hill such a special place.
With gratitude and Hill Side Pride,
Dr. Andre Bala

Buffs Pantry Community Impact
Smoky Hill HS students have been working hard to keep our families in transition stocked with groceries, hygiene products, and clothing. On average, we serve about 53 community members per week. Since the year has begun, Call 2 Action has created over 527 personalized Smoky Hill bags for those families. This success is all thanks to your gracious donations back in September, which have been able to sustain us for the last several months.
Shout out to Kelly DiBlasi, who ensures that each student receives exactly what they need once we drop off our bags in counseling. We could not function so smoothly without your love and care!
This week, our Call 2 Action class was invited to attend the CSU Colorado Grow Youth Institute at the CSU Spur Campus. They each had to write a research paper regarding a country of their choice and an issue within that country that directed impacted a food insecurity. They are not only examining the effects and solutions of food disparities within our community, but from a global aspect as well. Additionally, last month, Call 2 Action also hosted Overland High School, Horizon Community Middle School, and Prairie Middle School in class so that they could model pantries like ours! If you know your student is in Call 2 Action, give them a shout out next time you see them. They are doing beautiful things for our school!
On May 1st, there is going to be another SNAP cut that will affect over 9,000 Colorado families. You can read more about this here: New SNAP cuts impact nearly 9,000 Coloradans | 9news.com Buff's Pantry is expecting another large influx of community members in need of our assistance soon. REPEATED INFORMATION
Buff Pantry
As a class, we have aimed to make a difference in our Smoky Hill community, and we decided to do this by creating a safe space where students can receive the food and hygiene products they need on a weekly basis. We offer multiple types of food, whether it’s canned/boxed or just quick snacks, hygiene products, baby products (diapers/wipes), and clothes/shoes. We receive donations from SECOR, the local community, students, and our CCSD district Food Pantry Liaisons. Last year, we were able to serve 70 families in total. Our goal is to limit food insecurity and strengthen our school holistically.
If you are in need: Here is the Buff's Pantry Google form link for you to fill out with your needs:https://forms.gle/NoraXVqzbxUYT4B8A
