REVIEWING SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS:

Mrs. Saad visited every classroom this week 🏫 to review our School Expectations with students πŸ“‹. As a follow-up, students were given a homework assignment πŸ“ to take home the School Expectation Matrix and review it with their parents πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦. This collaborative effort is all about teamwork 🀝 and helping our Huskies grow in the right direction 🐾🌟!

πŸ’Œ Letter from the District Nurse πŸ’–πŸ©Ί

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we prepare for a successful school year, we would like to remind families that if your child has a chronic health condition (such as asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, or any other medical need requiring ongoing management), it is essential to complete the necessary health documentation.

Please visit the Crestwood School District website to access and fill out all required medical forms. Give the completed form along with any necessary medication to the main office. This information helps us ensure your child’s safety and well-being throughout the school day.

There is a process in place to manage medical needs, which may include creating an individualized health care plan and coordinating with school health staff. Submitting your documentation early allows us to have everything in place for your child.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the school office.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Nadine Shebli DNP, BSN

Crestwood School District Nurse

REMINDERS:

We hope your child had a great start to their first week of school! πŸŽ‰ Here are a few important reminders to help keep everything running smoothly:

  • πŸ‘Ÿ Please make sure your child wears closed-toe shoes to school β€” no sandals, for safety reasons.

  • 🍎 Be sure to send a snack each day.

  • πŸ’§ Send a water bottle with your child daily to help them stay hydrated.

  • πŸ“² If you haven’t already, please join your child’s classroom on ClassDojo to stay updated.

  • πŸšŒπŸƒ If you are picking your child up early or there are any changes to their bus transportation (either for drop-off or pick-up), you must notify the school office immediately.

  • 🚧 A construction crew is currently working on an addition to our building, so please be cautious and patient when pulling up to the school.

  • 🚸 We have a new crossing guard this year, Mrs. Valerie. Please be courteous and help her as she learns and adjusts to our traffic routines before and after school.

Thank you for your continued support! 😊

As we begin the school year, we want to share some important reminders to ensure a safe and smooth arrival and dismissal process:

πŸš— Drop-Off & Pick-Up via Car Line

  • Car line begins on Drexel Street.

  • Morning drop-off starts at 8:15 AM for students eating breakfast.

  • Please stay in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-upβ€”this helps keep the line moving quickly and smoothly.

  • If your child isn’t able to open the car door independently, now is a great time to practice and review car line routines together.

🏫 Morning Line-Up (indoor line-up by the classroom doors)

  • For this week, students will line up inside by their classroom door.

    • All students can enter the building for breakfast in the gym at 8:15.

    • Students who are in the building from 8:15 will be dismissed and allowed to their classroom door at 8:30.
    • If students are not coming for breakfast they will wait outside the building until 8:30, so please plan accordingly!
    • If you're unsure of your child’s classroom teacher, staff will be available to assist and provide that information.

  • Please be PATIENT as we all adjust back into routineβ€”your support is appreciated!

🚌 Bus Riders

  • Students taking the bus will have tags attached to their backpacks to help identify their correct bus.

  • If your child will be riding the bus, please:

    • Inform their teacher this week, and

    • Talk to your child about bus safety and rules.

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Parking and Walking to School

  • If you plan to park and walk your child to school, please enter from Drexel Street and park near the playground area. MONDAYS are Garbage days, so please do not park on the street!

πŸŽ’ Material Donations

  • If you’re bringing in classroom donations, please place them in a labeled bag and send them with your child to hand directly to their teacher.

  • You’re also welcome to drop these items off later in the week if that’s more convenient.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we kick off a great school year! We’re excited to see everyone soon!

πŸŽ’πŸšŒ Time for School ✏️🍎

πŸ“Œ Important Reminders

  • ⏰ There is very limited supervision before school begins.
If your child does not ride the bus, please plan your time accordingly.

  • 🏫 Please make sure your child arrives by 8:35 a.m.
At 8:50 a.m., your child is considered TARDY and you will need to come into the building to sign them in.

  • πŸ“ž If your child needs to be picked up before dismissal, please call us by 12:00p.m. to let us know what time they’ll be picked up.

πŸ•’ School Hours

  • 8:35 a.m. – πŸ”” First Bell Rings

  • 8:40 a.m. – ✏️ Classes Begin

πŸ•¦ Please drop off lunch before 11:15 a.m.

TEACHER NOMINATIONS:

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) opened the nomination period for the 2026-27 Michigan Teacher of the Year this past spring. The nomination window remains open until Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. MDE welcomes nominations from students, parents/guardians, coworkers, and school community members. Individuals wishing to nominate a teacher for this recognition are asked to complete the online form.

District newsletters and social media serve as valuable channels to share the online form, providing an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of dedicated educators in your district. We encourage districts to consider including the nomination information provided (below the closing) in communications.

MDE recognizes some districts and intermediate school districts have established processes to award local teachers of the year. If so, your designated district representatives may email teacher nominations directly to MTOY@Michigan.gov. Please include the teacher’s name, personnel identification code (PIC), email address, and school in which they are employed. An email verifying receipt will be sent within 48 hours. Nominations from districts will be accepted until September 24, 2025.

More information about the program is available on the Michigan Teacher of the Year webpage. Please contact the Office of Educator Excellence at MTOY@Michigan.gov with any questions regarding the program or nomination process. We genuinely appreciate your assistance in sharing this information with your district.

Respectfully,

Michigan Teacher of the Year Team
