Attendance
Attendance is the foundation for student success. When students are present and engaged each day, they build consistent learning habits, stay on track with lessons, and develop strong connections with teachers and peers. Missing school—even just a day or two—can cause gaps in understanding that are harder to fill later. Regular attendance not only supports academic growth but also builds responsibility, perseverance, and life skills that prepare students for the future. Every day in class is a step toward achieving their goals—because every day counts.
Our attandance goal for the year is 95%. To help students want to come there will be surprise attendance days each six weeks along with State Farm Pizza dinner drawing for perfect attendance.
Last Week's Attendance: 95%
PreK - 96%
Kindergarten -95%
1st Grade - 93%
2nd Grade - 94%
3rd Grade - 95%
4th Grade - 96%
5th Grade - 97%
If your student is interested in signing up for the UIL Academic Conpetition, please fill out the form below. The form will close at the end of the week and then teachers will be holding tryouts and forming teams. If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Giadrosich at kelly.giadrosich@bisdmail.net
Veteran's Day Celebration
Veterans Day Performance, November 11th.
Mustang Families,
You are welcome to attend our Veterans Day event if you are serving in the United States military or have served in the past. You and your student can view the Veterans Day presentation together. We will serve coffee, juice, and doughnuts. To help us get a headcount, please use the link to let us know whether you can attend. To check in at the front desk, you will need to present your identification. We are excited to celebrate our families with military ties. Here is the sign-up link.
Leader In Me
Habit 3: Put First Things First teaches students how to prioritize what matters most. In Leader in Me, we call our most important priorities our “Big Rocks.” Big Rocks are the things that are most important and need our attention first—like learning, family, responsibilities, health, and goals. When we take care of our Big Rocks first, we have more time for the “little rocks,” like games, screen time, and other fun activities.
At school, we encourage our Mustangs to ask themselves, “What are my Big Rocks today?” This helps students learn to manage their time, complete important tasks, and make choices that move them toward their goals.
🏠 Practice Habit 3 at Home
Families can practice Put First Things First by helping children identify their Big Rocks and take care of them before moving on to less important activities.
🪨 Identify your Big Rocks: Ask, “What are the most important things you need to accomplish today?”
📚 Work before play: Finish homework, reading, chores, or other responsibilities before screen time or games.
📅 Plan your week: Look at the week ahead as a family and identify important assignments, practices, activities, and responsibilities.
✅ Make a priority list: Instead of just making a to-do list, put the most important tasks at the top.
🎮 Use “First, Then”: Try phrases like, “First we finish our Big Rock, then we can play.”
⭐ Celebrate responsibility: Recognize when your child chooses to complete something important before doing something they want to do.
Family Challenge: Each morning or evening, have everyone name one Big Rock they need to accomplish. At the end of the day, check in and celebrate getting those important things done!
Remember: Big Rocks FIRST! 🪨💛🖤
Counselor's Corner
We have two fun events this month. Red Ribbon Week and our annual Canned Food Drive to support Harvest House. The classroom with the most food donations gets an Alley Cats gift card for each student. We look forward to supporting our community.

Nurse's Information
Attendance is essential to your child’s success at school! Throughout the year, however, there may be health-related reasons your child should stay home. Please use the following guidelines to help determine when your child should remain home due to illness:
Fever of 100°F or higher within the past 24 hours
Your child must be fever-free for a full 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Motrin) before returning to school.
Vomiting and/or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Itchy, red eyes with discharge
A rash with fluid or pus until treatment has been received and a doctor’s note states that your child may return to school
Ringworm of the scalp until treatment has started
Head lice — Students may return after appropriate lice treatment. The school nurse will need to check your child’s head before they return to class.
If your student requires medication during the school day, please review and complete the required medication forms here: BISD Medication Forms
To help keep everyone healthy, please encourage your child to wash their hands often, use hand sanitizer, and cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Getting plenty of sleep and eating healthy foods—especially breakfast—can also help students stay healthy and ready to learn.
If you are ever unsure whether your student should stay home, please reach out to me for guidance. We share a common goal: the health, safety, and educational success of every student!
We are excited to welcome back visitors onto campus. Thank you for giving us that time to practice our rourtines and procedures to help the school year run smoothly. Just a few reminder:
- Please make sure you bring your ID with you everytime to check into the office. Even if you frequent often, Ms. Almand is required to scan your ID everytime.
- Only people listed as a guardian or emergency contact will be allowed to eat with students.
- You may only eat with your child on the stage.
