ThunderRidge Weekly Update

Principal's Perspective
Wow! It is a happy Friday here at ThunderRidge, and we have so much to celebrate!
We had a great turnout for our Freshman/New to TR Parent Night on Tuesday. If you missed it, here is the info! Even if you went to Freshman Night, we’d love to have you join us for Back to School Night and our Clubs/Activities Fair next week Wednesday from 5:30-7:30PM. Come meet staff, walk your students’ schedules, and see how they can get involved in clubs and/or activities.
Today was Popsicle Friday at TRHS (as you can see from the photo). Not only because it was the Friday of our first full week back, but also because ThunderRidge was just ranked #10 in the top high schools in Colorado - the only high school in DCSD to make the list! I’m so proud of all the staff, students, and community members who worked hard to make this happen.
Another celebration? We also think we have gotten the lunch lines corrected and the delivery delays that made us short of food for B lunch resolved. We hope lunchtime will be much smoother now. Speaking of food, we serve breakfast from 7:15AM-8:10AM in the mornings M-Th (later on Fridays of course) and open up again for those who want to grab a quick bite during the passing period between first and second blocks. Come early, leave full!
Your students may have been worried (or curious) about the transition for our Grizzly Hour class structure on Tuesday and Thursdays. Here is the upcoming schedule of what classes will be Responsive (where students/staff can request to go see others for help) and what classes are booked for other purposes. Note that we’ll train students on how to request teachers and on how to manage getting work from multiple teachers starting next Thursday.
Remember, if your student still requires a laptop from us, please fill out this request form to check one out.
But wait, there’s more! We learned that if you wait until about 2:50 to arrive at TRHS to pick up your students, almost all the RVMS traffic is gone and you can drive right in! If you need to come early to pick up a RVMS student too, we ask that you park in a designated parking space rather than in the line for those who are only waiting for RV students.
We also…
Got new signage inside the building as a part of our 30th anniversary. Enjoy the facelift!
Anticipate getting all new theater seats (as a part of our last bond) this Winter Break!
Will start on a shared wrestling/Poms space in the spring for completion this summer (in collaboration between the district and TR)..
Are just waiting on an exchange line fix and then our new track will be done. This is a bond/insurance combo - since the wind destroyed part of our track last year.
Lastly, DCSD is considering putting an MLO on the ballot for November. I encourage you to tune in to the Board meeting this coming Tuesday for details or to share your comments. Should the MLO pass, the funds would help DCSD provide a 4% pay raise for teachers and other staff, continued funding of elementary SROs, a reduction in waitlists for CTE pathways, and the reintroduction of elementary instrumental music.
Thanks again for all you do as a TRHS family. It is beyond exciting to get to be a part of this amazing community!
:) Liz

TRHS Athletics
Hello Grizzly Fall Sport Athletes and Families!
Please take a few minutes to complete a brief survey about your upcoming season so we can help your sport and our entire athletic program grow. The survey is open for Winter and Spring sports as well, but if those sports could hold off until your respective seasons, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Coach Chris Smith
Asst. Principal/Athletic Director
Schedule is subject to change. Be sure to check the ThunderRidge Athletics website for the most up to date athletics information.
A Message From Grizzly Gratitude
Let us introduce you to the Grizzly Gratitude Community!
Grizzly Gratitude began in April 2020 around a kitchen table with a few friends and has grown to over 75 volunteers. The group's mission is to recognize and show appreciation for the teachers and staff at ThunderRidge High School, encourage parent involvement and continue a sense of commUnity and boost morale with positive affirmation throughout the year.
Thanks to this community's generosity, last year we were able to celebrate our teachers and staff with quite a few fun events throughout the year: Hot Dogs and Cracker Jacks, Breakfast Burritos, Bingo, Valentine's Day and Halloween Treats, Super Bowl Squares, Annual Gift Card Tree, and coffee bars, to name a few.
Serving 170+ teachers and staff takes many hands and a considerable amount of money.
Please consider joining our mission with one or more of the following options:
Donate: make a donation through this link: https://thunderridge-grizzly-bear-backer-club.snwbll.com/teacher-appreciation Any amount helps!
Volunteer: reply to this email and let us know that you'd be interested in helping at one of our events.
Sponsor: asking a small business if they'd be willing to sponsor or co-sponsor an event.
We send out a monthly update to let you know what we're up to. Send an email to Grizzly Gratitude and we will add you to our list.
We are so grateful for all of the donations of time and funding we have received over the years and would love to continue serving our ThunderRidge teachers and staff in the future.

IB Update
On Friday, August 21, our ThunderRidge High School IB Diploma Programme candidates kicked off the academic year in high gear with our annual IB Bootcamp! Designed to equip students with the practical tools, academic strategies, and peer support required for the DP journey, the event was a resounding success.
Throughout the day, students stepped out of the traditional classroom setting to immerse themselves in the key skills of a successful IB student, including: Responsible AI use, Organization, Resilience, Time Management, Data Analysis, and more.
The energy, focus, and leadership our IB students displayed set a fantastic tone for the upcoming school year. They left with organized planning tools, clear expectations, and a stronger sense of shared purpose.
