THE END OF THE 1ST QUARTER!
Dear Jackson Families,
It's so hard to believe that we have made it to the end of the 1st quarter! Time is going by so quickly and we have so much to do ! Grade cards will be coming home on Friday in your students folders. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher. I am more that positive they would love to hear from you!
As we roll into the colder months, we run into a little problem at Jackson. Our students still want to dress in clothes than may not be as warm as they would like when we go to recess. Please know that we are going to get outside as much as possible because very soon, we will have to have inside recess due to wet weather. Please make sure that your child has a sweater or sweatshirt to help deal with the cooler weather.
If by chance you notice that your child has less sweaters and sweatshirts than usual, that might be because those items have ended up in our lost and found. Right now that area has two 6ft long tables covered with clothing. We encourage our students to check the area, but it would be helpful if you also encouraged it. There is some expensive gear on that table right now. At Christmas break, all clothing left on the table will be bagged and donated.
Please know that at any time you have a question, please feel free to call the office at 740-928-1915.

OCTOBER is National Bullying Prevention Month
A Note From Mrs. Alexander
While it is Bullying Prevention Month, I am continuing with my regularly scheduled SEL lessons. These Social Emotional Learning lessons are meant to build on each other and promote the development of the following skills:
SELF-AWARENESS ~ SELF-MANAGEMENT
RELATIONSHIP SKILLS ~ SOCIAL AWARENESS
RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING
Social Emotional Learning occurs on Mondays during Specials. It rotates each week between Music, Gym, and Art. During the off-weeks, students are participating in Project Based Learning.
This is only on Mondays.
Heads up- there will be an additional lesson provided to students in January. This lesson will cover the state-mandated topic of child sexual abuse prevention. I will facilitate this lesson in individual classrooms and will be utilizing the curriculum Educate to Protect.
Educate to Protect is a research-based, school-based child sexual abuse prevention program featuring seven interactive, video-led lessons for grades K–6. The program helps students understand body safety, recognize inappropriate behavior and grooming, identify trusted adults, and know how to seek help. (https://www.educatetoprotect.org/)
*Information will be sent out to caregivers prior to the training, and there will be an option to opt-out of the training.
I consider it an honor to serve the students, families, and staff at Jackson Intermediate. I believe it takes a village to raise children and provide all the levels of support and education they need to be successful. I am part of your village. If you have any questions, concerns, or need connected to resources, please reach out to me any time. If you leave me a voicemail or send an email, I will do my very best to get back to you within 24 hours.

Bullying Prevention Month and its signature event UNITY DAY OCTOBER 21ST
EVERY MINUTE MATTERS IN EDUCATION!
As we begin the school year, we want to emphasize the importance of attendance. Under House Bill 410, schools must carefully track student absences by hours, not just days.
A student is considered:
Excessively absent if they miss 38 or more hours in a month or 65 or more hours in a year (excused or unexcused).
Habitually truant if they have 30+ consecutive hours, 42+ hours in a month, or 72+ hours in a year of unexcused absences.
How Parents/Guardians Can Help:
Make sure your child comes to school on time every day unless they are ill.
Schedule doctor’s appointments and family trips outside school hours when possible.
Stay in touch with us if your child must be absent so we can work together to keep them on track.
To be excused, the student must provide the office a written note from their parent or a medical professional within three (3) days stating the date and reason for the student’s absence.
Our goal is to work with families to build strong habits that lead to success in school and beyond. If you ever face challenges with your child’s attendance, please contact us—we are here to help.
Our district attendance guide is below!
ARRIVAL AT JACKSON AND LAKEWOOD ELEMENTARY
STUDENTS WHO ARE EVERYDAY PICK UPS
Please be sure to send a note or call the office and let our secretary, Mrs. Shrigley, know if your child is going to be an everyday pick up. We have a checklist that helps us to dismiss these students each day. If the office is not aware that you child is a pick up, this will cause you a delay at dismissal.
