Weekly Encouragement
This week, as I’ve been walking the halls and seeing all the great things happening, from classrooms to recess to spring activities, I’ve been thinking a lot about our chapel message on truth. It’s easy to talk about truth, but it’s not always easy to live it out, especially in the small, everyday moments.
Jesus reminds us in John 14:6 that He is the truth. And because of that, how we treat others really matters. I’ve been challenged by Ephesians 4:15 to “speak the truth in love,” and 1 Corinthians 13:6 that “love rejoices with the truth.”
So this week, I’m working on that too - choosing words that are both honest and kind, and making sure the way I respond to others reflects Jesus. I want our school to be a place where people feel both heard and loved.
I’m really proud of you, Cougars. Let’s keep growing together and living out the truth in love every day.
Together we soar!

Elementary News
Elementary Chapel Update
This week in chapel, students heard from Mrs Sharpe about TRUTH - what it means and why it matters. We explored that truth is accurate and agrees with the facts, and practiced recognizing truth in simple, everyday ways.
Students also discussed how we can trust the Bible as true - because it was written by eyewitnesses, agrees throughout, and is supported by history and archaeology.
Most importantly, we focused on how Jesus is the truth:
We challenged students to think about how we share truth with others. Rather than being unkind or harsh, we are called to:
Family Connection - ask your child:
- What is truth?
- How can you show truth AND love at the same time?
- Why can we trust the Bible?
A great reminder that truth is not just something we know - it’s something we live out with love every day.
Grandparents Day
We look forward to celebrating Grandparents Day on April 24! This special morning is for grandparents or a special family member. Students should be in Chapel Dress Code, and there will be no After School Care that day.
Coffee & muffins will be available in the Merillat Room (doors open at 8:00 am), and guests may bring them into The Centre Auditorium. The program begins at 8:45 am and features PreK-5th grade students, the Elementary Choir, and a preview of Newsies.
Afterward, guests may visit classrooms and enjoy campus activities, including the Book Fair, Cougar Den, Plant Sale table, and photo opportunities. Students who are signed out will not return to class. We can't wait!
Spring Book Fair
We’re excited to remind you that our Elementary Book Fair is coming up next week, April 20-24! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new books and grow their love of reading.
To help make the Book Fair a success, we are looking for volunteers throughout the week. If you are available to lend a hand, we would greatly appreciate your support.
NWEA & Benchmark Testing
From April 20 through May 8, elementary students will test in reading and math using school devices, while secondary students will test in reading, language arts, and math on their personal computers. These assessments measure student growth and compare progress to peers nationwide.
There is no study guide for these tests. Encourage your child to do their best, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. If a test is missed, make-up sessions will be available.
Results will be sent home after testing. Please reach out to Anne McEldowney at amceldowney@lenawee.org with any questions.
