D65 Sustainability: Sept 26

Join Us: Free Shopping Day on Oct 14 from 4-7pm at Kingsley
D65 is hosting a free shopping for children's books along with school supplies at Kingsley on Wednesday, October 14 from 4-7pm. ALL ARE WELCOME including D65 Staff, families, local community organizations, schools and anyone who would like free books and supplies.
Our Positive Impact: Hosting Free Shopping Days in Aug & Sept
Over the summer, we collected remaining supplies and classroom library books from Bessie Rhodes, Kingsley and the Willard TWI program. It's our opportunity to give back to our staff, students and local community organizations, reduce spending on school supplies and save materials from being sent to landfill.
D65 hosted 2 more days of free shopping for school supplies and classroom library books at Bessie Rhodes on Sept 14 and Kingsley on Sept 16. Open to D65 staff, SACC, Books & Breakfast, YOU, Book Nooks and local community organizations, we had 85 visitors with 16% repeat shoppers from 15 schools and 3 local community organizations (Kingsway Prep, Evanston Public Library and Unity Preschool).

New Native Pollinator Plants Metal Signs rolling out this Fall
D65 is rolling out new Native Pollinator Plants Metal "Do Not Mow or Spray" Signs this Fall which were designed in collaboration with Tim Sonder. We've delivered all the signs to our schools and asked our native plant stewards to install them by October 18th.
These new metal signs will replace the plastic "do not trim" signs and will be more durable and educational. Our goal is for each native planting area on our D65 school grounds to have one 18"x6" educational sign and multiple of these smaller signs spread out around the perimeter.
We've updated our Native Planting Guidelines on D65 School Grounds accordingly to reflect switching to these new metal signs. Our Buildings & Grounds team is in communication with our landscaping team to let them know about the new metal signs. The landscapers will not touch any areas designated with this signage.
Community Bike Ride and Fundraiser: $17,000 Raised so far...
Many thanks to everyone who came out to the North Shore Century Ride on September 20th, rode, fundraised, donated, spread the word, or otherwise helped bring our D65 Climate Cycle campaign to the North Shore Century!
Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate with rain pretty much all day. Some of our crew braved the rain and got out there, while many of us understandably decided to sit this one out. Joey Feinstein's family made it to the event and had a great time, but with the kids in tow—and their 4-year old riding on the back rather than pedaling—they decided the rainy ride wasn't in the cards.
While the North Shore Century Ride may be behind us, this campaign is still climbing. We've now raised over $17,000 toward our $20K goal!
So let's keep rolling. If you're fundraising, this is a great time to share an update from the weekend, circle back with anyone who hasn't responded, or make another round of asks. We're now less than $3K from the finish line.
Many thanks for everything you've done to build this campaign and get us this far. Rain or shine, it's been pretty awesome to see the momentum that's emerged. Let's get to $20K!

Support ESCCA
ESCCA, the Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association, is hard at work fulfilling its historic mission - to make sure no Evanston child misses school for lack of warm clothing or shoes. ESCCA opened its doors to District 65 children just before the start of the school year so they could visit our store and choose warm clothing, coats, shoes, boots, socks, undergarments, and more. ESCCA has received over 150 referrals so far this school year.
There are many ways to get involved with ESCCA:
Consider purchasing something from our Amazon Wishlist which we continue to update with the items we need most. Click HERE!
