Part of what makes being with GSCY Storm special is participating in fun activities outside of the pool throughout the season! The volunteer opportunities shared below will fulfill your point requirement for the season.

1. GSCY Practice Group Parents (two per group) plan parties/special events for their practice group outside of the pool. Three group get-togethers include one at the beginning of the season, a holiday celebration, and prior to championships (a guideline, with three events necessary during Short Course season). You can also plan joint events with other practice groups.

The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 2nd. First come, first served.

Please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C4AAEA82BA64-66015886-20262027 and contact myralyn@gmail.com with any questions.

2. GSCY Dual Team Parents (two per group) help run dual meets. Specific tasks include:

Communicating with the dual team to recruit volunteers to run three dual meets
Ensuring volunteers are checked in and fulfilling job requirements at dual meets

Coordinating with the volunteer coordinator to establish/monitor volunteer signups

More detailed information regarding specific procedures will follow. Team rosters with email addresses will also be provided for communication with your corresponding dual team.

Important note: Our dual meets cannot run without our dual team parents! These meets are parent (not coach) run, making your participation essential.

If interested, please sign up here by Friday, October 2nd. First come, first served.

Please contact lbarnicle@gscymca.org with any questions.

STORM swimmer Joe Cridge (Senior 3) launched Gear Up! to provide swim gear to children in need. Be on the lookout for more information to come about a gear drive to be held in our YMCA facilities this upcoming January. Gear Up! is also partnering with the JAC and student-run group DefyNJ to provide donations to other YMCAs in New York (with delivery help from an LHY swimmer) and a pool in rural Vermont.

Joe has been in contact with younger STORM swimmers about passing his service project on when he graduates in two years. Please visit his Instagram page (@gearupswimmingusa) and consider helping Joe carry out his mission of doing his part to ensure children in need can experience the joys of swimming.

Swim Equipment & Apparel

A reminder that Sport Fair will be on-site at Time Trials on 9/27 to assist with fittings and will also distribute caps at that time (additional distribution details will be provided as information becomes available).

Non-personalized caps will be available to purchase here as well (with another opportunity to order personalized caps later on in the season) as well as apparel, suits, and equipment.

Custom GSCY Storm Towels

We're offering custom GSCY team towels through a separate store through 9/29: Team Towels

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TOWEL ORDERS

We need to reach a required minimum team order number in order for the order to be fulfilled, with orders refunded if we fail to do so. Please get your orders in asap!

Intra-Team Swim Gear Donations

Bins located at BY and SHY are being used to collect any gently used suits and equipment. Have something you'd like to donate? Drop it in the bin before or after practice! Collected items will be available for those in need at a table at Time Trials, a great way to reuse and recycle that benefits us all as a team.

If you have any questions about apparel, equipment or ordering, please reach out to Danielle Nasto at gscystormapparelchair@gmail.com.

GSCY Storm families are invited to join us for our annual season kickoff picnic on Sunday 9/27, immediately following Time Trials at the Bridgewater YMCA. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers (upon request)

All-beef hot dogs

Fresh New Jersey corn on the cob with herb butter

Fresh sliced watermelon

Homemade rotini pasta salad (vegetarian), homestyle potato salad, and macaroni & cheese

Iced tea, lemonade, and ice water will be provided along with a full fixins bar with all the usual toppings and condiments.
