At the conclusion of the meeting, school counselors were treated to a breakfast prepared by students in the Culinary Arts CTE program. With the assistance of Chef Courto and Chef Hoffmeister, students did a phenomenal job with the breakfast. Emerging Technologies and Cyber Security Students Present at CTE Advisory Council Meeting

At the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison (OHM) BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Council meeting on January 5, several students in the Emerging Technologies and Cyber Security CTE program presented to the meeting attendees.

The CTE Advisory Council is composed of business and industry, labor, public agency, education and community representatives who provide counsel, direction and assistance to career and technical education development and activities relating to community and employment trends. The meeting was designed to gather feedback from stakeholders on CTE programs and it was highlighted by a presentation from Eliot Lince (New Hartford), Gavin Burger (Whitesboro) and Matthew Matys (Oriskany).

The second-year CTE students began their presentation by giving background on the drone swarm they would be presenting. To fly the drones, the students coded and programmed the drones to two different synchronized sequences. They were able to accomplish this using Python, a program students learn about in the Emerging Technologies and Cyber Security program.

When it was time to fly the drones, the students displayed the code that the drones received as they made their movements in the air. Eventually, the code piloted the drones to a safe landing, which allowed Advisory Council members to ask questions about the students’ CTE experiences.
