Ms. Sheryl Czerwinski

by Audrey Napolitano

Ms. Czerwinski is a high school and junior high English teacher, as well as the Drama Club Director, Red and Black newspaper advisor, Class of 2025 sponsor, and Yearbook co-sponsor at Dryden Junior/Senior High School. Ms. Czerwinski has a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Teaching Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University.

Ms. Czerwinski stated that she enjoys cooking, reading, shopping, and spending time with friends and family in her free time. Something about Ms. Czerwinski that she wants students to know is that she wants to live in Evergreen from all of the Hallmark movies. When asked why Ms. Czerwinski chose Dryden, she stated “when I met Miss Fox and saw how much she cared about each and every student, I knew I wanted to be a part of the Dryden family”.

Ms. Czerwinski’s favorite thing about Dryden is how Dryden’s size is its strength. She elaborated by stating how Dryden is so small that it is easy to know all of the students and their families very well, but big enough that Dryden can allow students to advance based on content mastery and the Early College Program which offers students the ability to take college classes and earn college credits while in high school. Ms. Czerwinski’s words of motivation are to work hard and be nice to people.

Students Say...

We sent out a Google Form with three questions for students at Dryden Junior/ Senior High about their favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski, their favorite memory from Ms. Czerwinski’s class, and the most valuable lesson they learned in Ms. Czerwinski’s class. Here are some of the responses.

  • Freshman Rowan Hadley’s favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how she teaches good in depth lessons. His favorite memory from Ms. Czerwinski’s class was when he learned about the Adnan Syed court case. The most valuable thing he learned in Ms. Czerwiski’s class was English.

  • Sophomore Jaylyn Delmotte’s favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how she is always there for her students. She also mentioned how Ms. Czerwinski’s jokes always make her day. She said that her favorite memory in Ms. Czerwinski’s class was when Ms. Czerwinski would bring in snacks when they had an away volleyball game. The most valuable thing Jaylyn learned from Ms. Czerwinski, is to “just keep swimming”.

  • Senior Destiny Ellis’ favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how caring and thoughtful she is. She mentioned how Ms. Czerwinski is always there to talk about personal things. Her favorite memory was in SAT Prep when everyone bonded and got close. The most valuable thing Destiny learned from Ms. Czerwinski was that everything has a reason for happening, and you have to make the best of it, and always give hugs.

  • Freshman Austin Kapron’s favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how helpful she is, and how she is always at the door to say ‘hello’. Austin said his favorite memory in Ms. Czerwinski’s class was when they learned about the interesting Adnan Syed murder case. He stated that the case was very exciting to learn and talk about as a class. Austin said the most valuable lesson he learned from Ms.Czerwinski is "don't give up just because you think you can’t do it, try again, and you will be successful".

  • Sophomore Liam Napolitano said that his favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how she is good at teaching and makes learning fun. The most valuable lesson he learned from Ms. Czerwinski is to study more often for Wordly.

  • Freshman Caila Fitchett stated “Ms. Czerwinski is not only an amazing teacher but also an excellent mentor. I have known Ms. Czerwinski for a few years now and I only have positive things to say about her. Her kindness has always been appreciated, her positive attitude impacts my day for the better and her lessons have changed the way I have thought about English and many other areas of life. She is an amazing teacher and I am so glad I was given the opportunity to be taught by her”. She said that her favorite memory with Ms. Czerwinski was during drama when they practiced for the play. Caila stated “One of the most valuable lessons I learned from her was the concept that everyone matters and people deserve to be appreciated for who they are and what they've done. I also learned that there is so much more to learn and to always keep an open mind to expand our knowledge”.

  • Sophomore Giovonin Giganti stated that his favorite thing about Ms. Czerwinski is how she’s constantly representing kindness, and always tries to bring out the good in people. His favorite memory in Ms. Czerwinski’s class was when they learned about the Adnan Syed case. The most valuable lesson he learned from Ms. Czerwinski is that actions speak louder than words, so you should be kind by showing it, not just saying it.

Senior Seminar Speaker Senior Seminar Speaker

The Senior Seminar class, developed in partnership

with the Michigan College Access Network, is now in its seventh year.

It allows 12th grade students the time and support to prepare for the next step in their education, whether that is at a college, university, trade/training school, or the military.

Each week, guests visit the class to share their knowledge and inform students of their many post-secondary education options. Here is a student reflection from our recent speaker.

Saginaw Valley State University

by Adeline Tresnak

On Friday, September 30th, speaker Amber Hadley from Saginaw Valley State University came in to inform our senior seminar class about what the college has to offer. She told us about her personal experiences with SVSU, including how she attended classes, the different clubs she was in, and her experience with the dorms. She also mentioned the different programs, activities, and extracurriculars offered.

I really enjoyed listening to Amber talk about SVSU. By including her personal experiences and stories from SVSU, she made it sound really fun, and a lot less stressful than college would usually sound. I feel like a lot of times, many people, including myself, think of college as if it’s just going to be a ton of homework and challenging classes throughout your entire college career. Amber made me think differently. Listening to her speak about how you don’t have to make your college experience that stressful, boring mess made me open my eyes and realize that college is really what you make it. Instead of only attending and doing the classwork, throw in some extracurriculars or activities, get involved in what’s happening on campus, attend sports games, and just have fun.

Another thing Amber mentioned was that she strongly suggests everyone lives on campus for at least one year. I’ve personally been leaning towards commuting to whichever college I choose to go to lower the cost, but after thinking about it, our speaker made some really good points that have been making me consider living on campus. Overall, I really appreciated the way Amber spoke about college, giving our class a more relaxed and fun view of what college will be like.

This year, students meet in small groups with their grade level peers in 1st hour Junior High Advisory (grades 7-8) or High School Seminar (grades 9-12). Besides being a "home base" for students with a trusted teacher, these courses provide information on the Positivity Project's character strengths. This week is Wild Card week. It gives students and teachers a chance to revisit any of the past seven strengths on a more in-depth basis.
